A press release from the airline in English is even better: https://www.tapairportugal.com/en/media ... elease-809

Wow, MCZ's first TATL flight? I think?

PDL-BOS is interesting as well after DL dropped JFK-PDL.

Also OP, it should be A321LR, not XLR.

It will be competing with Azores airlines though. That route is generally their bread and butter. I wonder if this could be the end of them if TP catches up to them on this market. Anyone know how many times a week TP is flying it?

Humm, TP doesn't have any XLR's.
PDL-BOS with LR? That's a sure way to lose money.
That route is too low fare and too short to waste such a premium heavy aircraft on it. IMO it should be a standard "domestic" NEO.

I thought PDL-BOS would be coming on DL, but nice to see the add! I expected OPO-BOS to come first for TP, not PDL.

Why? TP has more strength on Portgual end and more feed on BOS end from UA/B6. And it has lower cost than DL.

UA does nothing but its hubs into BOS.

I have to wonder about the symmetry for point of sale on a route like BOS-PDL. I'd guess it's BOS-heavy but if someone has data to share, please do.

Just thought with them ending JFK-PDL and beefing up TATL from BOS that they may have been planning to transfer the route to BOS, but I agree TP is a great fit.

There are other network adjustments that TP is doing in Brazil with the A321 that are very positive.

REC is going to be up to 10 x week with a daily A330 plus 3 x week A321
NAT transitions to A321 at 6 x week
BEL transitions to A321 at 5 x week.

That puts TP in an incredibly strong position in Brazil's secondary markets.

How great would be to see LIS-CCS coming back on the A321LR, if Venezuela get it right sometime in the near future we might see it back.

Its PVD-heavy but that's a whole other argument ;-)

Wow S4 must be scrambling right now. Their financial situtation is already pretty dire, and the BOS-PDL monopoly is their cash cow.

Wow, DL isn’t the godsend everyone makes them out to be. According to Mlflyer12 “The weak are killed and eaten”. I guess DL was here. In addition to getting “killed and eaten” by AA in Haiti.

Yes and no. I think TP will offer a different dynamic. They will open up PDL to the entire U.S. via B6, not just "Boston".
In addition, I can tell you that people who pay a minimum of $4600 for a land-only bike tour in the Azores don't like to fly S4.

DL would have been a very good alternative to S4 but they're no more.

I fly to PDL often (I'm from there) and haven't flown S4 in several years as well. But I know a lot of people who fly S4 regularly on that route.

Holy moly! Looking at what is included, I can't imagine how that costs $9200-$9400 per couple unless the travelers get to take home new $3k top-of-the-line bicycles at the end of it.

It's the same type of people who pay $5,000 for J seat to LHR :)

Livingston used to serve MCZ from MXP until they went belly up. Some flights were triangular with Recife or Porto Seguro.

Yes and no. Yes, TP more aggressively offers interline options with B6, but TAP continues to enjoy ATI with United (and codeshares on some UA flights).

I'm not referring to the A++ Joint Venture, which is its own unique beast. TAP, LOT, and SAS continue to enjoy antitrust immunity with United, and as part of that longstanding relationship UA codeshares with all three carriers on beyond-hub/gateway intra-European routes (and they place their codes on beyond hub/gateway UA flights within North America).

and we can also expect the A321 in FOR pretty soon as a complementary service, adding capacity to the existing A330 flights (which are usually performed by the A330-200, although the NEO pop up quite frequenty).
I wonder when people will understand:
Embraer 190 or simply E190, not ERJ-190. E-Jets are NOT ERJs!
Boeing 747-8, not Boeing 747-800. Same goes for 787.
Airbus A320, not Airbus 320.
Airbii does not exist.

I think CCS is still operated by an ACMI (euroAtlantic). I don't think they'll change it unless the situation in Venezuela really improves.

FNC-CCS would be another great route for the A321LR.

The 'old' Air Italy also operated the route with 757s from MXP, with I believe a refueling stop in Sal.

5 days a week, with exception of TUE/FRI, starting 04/JUN/20.

The flight departs 40 minutes after S4, both legs.

I suspect they are still evaluating whether the LR can do the route or not.
LIS-IAD 3,121 nm
LIS-BEL 3,237 nm
LIS-MCZ 3,249 nm
LIS-ATL 3,564 nm
You can see how they're inching closer to that distance. After operating IAD thru the Winter they should have a lot of data upon which to make a decision.

How about operating LIS-BDA-ATL and/or LIS-BDA-MCO. With US preclearance, all pax will arrive in the US as domestic passengers.

Hoping PVD is still being considered as previously mentioned. Would love to see the other 2 days of the week the BOS flights don’t operate go to PVD.

I have to correct myself. There are no BOS-PDL daytime flights in S2020 only 2 weekly daytime BOS-TER flights.

I know I read here that they are actively considering HAV, LAX, and MEX - though, I can only see them at MEX. Where do we think they are going to next in Brasil? What about expansion to Asia?

Curitiba would be a logical choice, but no way a loaded A330 can take off from CWB and make it to LIS. The A321 does not have the legs to reach CWB.

EZE was announced in early 2018 but Argentina's crisis # 19,282 has put those plans on hold. LIS is not geographically well located for flights to Asia, and the Portuguese market is not big enough to sustain those flights on its own. Macau does not have the traffic to justify a direct connection either.

TAP should add more Africa destinations: CPT, JNB, etc.

I hear they are going to start João Pessoa. It will be 3 times from Lisbon. Is this true?
