Detroit (DTW) sets record for the months of August and September.

Fri Nov 22, 2019 7:03 pm

The good news keeps rolling in!
DTW had the best August ever, and a strong September for Origin & Destination (O & D) traffic - outbound passengers visiting or residing in the Detroit area.
Thank you for a record-breaking August and September! #flydtw

Been really hopping, noticeably, every time I've been in/out or thru lately. Very smooth operations everywhere except occasionally that setup up stairs by DL counters/security, which I avoid. I have to say I am always over-hearing people in the airport and on planes saying how much they like transiting thru DTW over other hubs. Just need more carriers
I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list!

But but but, everyone on A.net says DL is abandoning it! Surely this must be fake news! -Sarcasm

Seriously though, great news. I fly into/out of DTW once or twice a month. Great airport, terrible rental car facility. Lately I use FNT more and more to avoid all the road construction (on route to Auburn Hills or Rochester).
Sometimes we don't realize the good times when we're in them

Love DTW for connections and go out of my way to book flights transiting DTW whenever possible. And another plus is they are renovating 2 or the 4 Sky Clubs, with 1 club reno underway and the other about to start. :checkmark: :checkmark: :checkmark:

So this is the best August O&D ever - what year was the previous record set? How were the total pax numbers for August 2019?

Anyone know if 3L/21R is still scheduled to reopen in November?

DTW RWY 03L/21R CLSD TO LDG 1911221947-1912242359

Then why is it still NOTAM’d closed to Christmas Eve? I’m genuinely curious, not trying to be sassy. I operated a flight to DTW on Monday and it was still closed when I landed as I recall. Did it open temporarily while I was off?

There is a pic on their FB page showing the first departure on the runway a DL A321 to SLC, it was Thursday.

NOTAM’d closed to landing traffic [not departure traffic].

Ah, thanks for catching that detail. I’m still home sick, good thing - I can’t even read a complete NOTAM apparently :melting: :yuck: Good to see the runway is partially opened again.

Just out of curiosity why would the runway be open to departures but not for arrivals ?

Approach lighting and/or navigation equipment may not yet fully installed, operative, or certified by the FAA.

Considering that 3L/21R is almost used exclusively for departures it’s not a big deal.

On a side note per the airport August was the best month ever in DTW history and September was the best September in the airports history. On ward and up ward. Hey FI and EI will you look at us now ?

Plus, DTW has a fairly simple layout. The McNamara terminal's concourses are just one long piece and not extremely complex and convoluted like quite a few other airports.

I was asking a simple yes or no question before the mods decided to delete it. Is the deice pad by runway 3L back in operation or not?

Mods, why delete my simple question, yet allow almost half of this thread to be about the runway itself?
