Let's wait for a formal communication from Airbus.

Even if true you will probably never get formal communication from Airbus over something like this

Unless someone leaks a picture like it was the case for Etihad's A340.

Logo painted backwards just like AC A220?

Severely damaged ? In a paint shop? Fire ?

Only thing I can think of is that the scaffolding rig they use has been crashed into it or its hit something whilst being towed. I think there would be more news on it if there was a fire.

Galileo GDS is already showing no BA A350 to DXB until 1st Feb now, DXB was going to get the 350 earlier in January.

Some of these large hangers have foam fire suppression systems, some of them have been known to misfire.

Next couple of BA A350s are already out of the paint hanger fully painted.

Didn't something like that happen to a DL A220-300 in Mobile?

Apologies - yes of course, but in Jan the BA107 reverts back to a 777. Was a 350 when I booked my clients on it a couple of weeks ago.

It sure did.

My bet is the aircraft just got covered in foam from the fire suppression system. Obviously there was no fire but the foam is slightly corrosive.

Looks to be fully painted outside a week ago.

It has been confirmed by Airbus that the aircraft has sustained damaged while in the paint hanger. The damage is said to have been caused by some of the equipment in the hanger. Its an A350-1000 most likely to be registered G-XWBD.

"FlightGlobal understands, from a source familiar with the situation, that the A350-1000 was parked in a paint shop and sustained surface damage from one of the many pieces of equipment that surround the aircraft in such facilities."

Didn't this also happen with an AA 777 at GRU maintenance hangar some time ago?

That's not a problem since they have always said the A350's composite fuselage is simple to repair.

Paint hangars are not like some old garage with paint barrels and ladders everywhere. I wonder what really happened. They have automated platforms hanging from the ceiling so there is not much scaffolding needed. Was it damaged when moved out somehow like hitting the wing or similar?

Maybe something like a Crane hit the fuselage? I doubt we'll ever really know

Some more info:

Two weeks ago the 4th British Airways #A350 has been severely damaged in a paint hall.
A mobile platform violently hit the horizontal stabilizer.
After the incident when you were watching the plane you had the impression that it was equipped with a third winglet...

It seems we need a definition of “severe” in this case. The incident happened two weeks ago, but a week ago the plane was outside fully painted.

I’ll go as far as to suggest the damage wasn’t that bad.

Wonder if Airbus has an extra A350 rear horizontal stab in stock?

Given that the standard is 'no damage', I would say bending a horizontal stabilizer to the vertical position while painting the aircraft is severe, but that's just me.

I can imagine the fast repair is due to the fact they are liable for the damage, have a delivery schedule to meet and are at the site where the airplane is assembled.

All of these factors eliminate many factors that could delay a repair.

That would be a certainty. Likely a replacement and a new spare ordered.

Maybe they replaced the hor. stab with another one already produced and painted for another frame later in production line.
