Southwest employee dances, listens to music on headphones while de-icing.

Southwest employee dances, listens to music on headphones while de-icing.
Is this allowed, or am I just an old ramp worker back when distractions/music headphones weren't permitted?

He's wearing a headset to communicate with the driver, not headphones. You can see the cord from his back attach onto the boom.

So no real distraction. Plus he isn't spraying, so really not a big deal at all.

Where in the entire article that you listed, does it he was listening to music?

Even if he was, what exactly would be a problem? I see exactly no way this could be an issue of any kind for his job.

Even if he was, I see precisely zero problem with what he's doing. The biggest risk I could see is that he'd accidentally slip

If you weren't in such haste to make this post, you would have read that he whistles while her works and sometimes there's songs stuck in his head. No mention of headphones.

I'd also think he is moving, just to keep himself warm...

You might be surprised how much we get filmed these days. Somedays I swear every passenger has their phones out!

As for this guy? Being in the bucket is not fun. If he’s having a good time up there, more power to him!

Dancing keeps you warm. It gets damn cold in an open bucket.

Everyone is:
a) looking for fame and/or validation
b) looking to profit off of some type of mishap or perceived wrongdoing by an employee

I think this "videographer" was a nice version of option "a".

Doing training for ramp work they don't allow listening to music while doing ramp. Maybe Southwest is just better.

“Usually I’m out there at 4 in the morning,” Sims told USA Today. “Either I’m listening to music or I have a song stuck in my head and I’m moving to stay warm.”

Music could also becoming from his partner in the cab of the truck, with that Mic headphone set up. I'd rather see an employee enjoying his work, keeping himself sane, than a grumpy one that just makes everyone else feel miserable around him. And unfortunately I work with one that's grumpy.

LMAO!! I don't see anything wrong at all! I wish more employees could enjoy life, even while at work. You have 2 choices when you work. You can clock in and be miserable till your shift is done. Or, you can make the best of it, and enjoy the shift the best way you can.

I have done both choices, and I gotta say... Enjoying and making the best of your shift makes the day go by faster, and makes the day so much better. I see nothing being done wrong or anything violating any safety or work rules. Good for him!
