Juneayo Airlines adds Dublin

Wed Nov 27, 2019 8:05 am

Chinese airline Juneyao Air is to launch a new twice-weekly year-round route between Dublin and Shanghai.

Juneyao will start the new service to Shanghai Pudong Airport next March and will also have onward connections to 40 other Chinese destinations, six cities in Japan, and 10 other Asia-Pacific destinations.

The new route will operate on Sundays and Thursdays, on a state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with a short stop in Helsinki on each leg.

Correct and will be bookable in J and Y products. Great new 5th freedom for me to try :) After doing the HU DUB - EDI and ET DUB - MAD all in J it will be great to try out their product. Lets hope its a route for the long term to PVG though!

Got to give Juneyao credit for starting new routes like this, and MAN & KEF. Interesting they have chosen HEL to route these flights over, they must have got a great deal from the airport there to do so.

I believe the reasons they chose HEL are:

    - increasing tourism to the Finnish Lapland (especially amongst Chinese)
    - lots of connections from Finnair (okay, they don't have codeshare agreement on European routes but maybe in the future)
    - nearly 1 million passengers flying between HEL and China
    - the geographic position of HEL
    - possible lower operations fees

Same same, 1-2 years, and the route is slashed.
Intercont nonstop to secondary and tertiary cities in Europe, from far East Asia, it's the current era.., but is not sustainable, both economically and ecologically I think.

A couple of interesting adds there.

I know they had applied for MEL flights also, and were apparently approved to fly, but yet to hear about those, so they do seem to be broadening their reach considerably.

Looks like the Juneyao is just an extension of their HEL route with added 5th Freedom rights

Yes, each DUB, MAN and KEF are extensions of HO's current HEL service.

KEF!? Loss making or not, who would've thought a Chinese airline would ever serve Iceland! What interesting times we live in! :)
When wasn't America great?

One thing is their co operation with Finnair, Juneyao codeshare with AY on PVG-HEL. Next summer HEL will be a Chinese 5th freedom heaven ;) There's also Sichuan Airlines flying CTU-HEL-CPH (A333).

Interesting that they codeshare with AY (OneWorld), being a Star Alliance Connect partner airline.

Wouldn’t have ARN / CPH made more sense than HEL ?

Apparently they see the Star connections are not needed here. A large part of the capacity will probably be bought in bulk by Chinese tour operators. And it's expected an other large part of the seats will be filled by Finnair, this is the way they can get more capacity to PVG.
