Condensation trails Turbobprop

Fri Nov 29, 2019 8:17 am

Morning all,

Can a turboprop such as ATR72 or Dash8-400 can create chemtrails on certain flights ?

Or are they Flying To Low ?

Many thanks.

Yes, I've seen Flybe DH4's trailing at FL250 when the conditions are right, which isn't very often.

Any plane can create chemtrails, just depends how much chemical agent has been loaded on board to spray over us to keep us all in check*.

There is no such thing as "chemtrails", I assume you mean condensation trails, or contrails for short? Propellers can for example create vortex contrails from the tip of their propellers.

Yes, they do everytime the Chemical Agent Dispersal System is switched on. :-)

In case you asked about contrails:

Piston engine powered aircraft can create contrails too. Just like the B17's in the linked picture:

Pulled many a contrail on approach at 1000 ft AMSL...

Nothing gets me more riled up than all the b*ll chit about chem trails. Now, I won't rule out governments spraying chemicals but they are probably unnoticed if being done, that is a different story. What we see from jets and piston engine planes (see B-17 pic) is a condensation trail from the engine exhaust. A byproduct of burning a hydrocarbon fuel (gasoline or jet A) is water vapor! If that the exhaust is being expelled into an area of cold moisture saturated air it will leave a visible moisture trail. The same effect happens from your car exhaust on a cold winter morning. All that white vapor coming out of your exhaust!

What's more, there's quite a bit photo and video proof online... here's some:

Follow up to previous post. in high humidity situations you can also get visible moisture in vortices and compressed airflow over the aircraft. Also in rare situations where aircraft equipped with fuel dumping capability you may get to see a fuel trail.

Wow, I've seen a couple of fuel dumps before, mostly when aircraft are still several thousand feet. Don't know why this one was so low, guess they were in hurry to get down for whatever reason.

Holy smokes thanks so much for straying off, that is by far the most amazing airliner video I've seen in a very long time.

Don't want to harp on the subject, but please, they are contrails, short for condensation trails, not chemtrails. Yes, turboprops can create contrails as well! Thinking too many people on this site listen to "coast to coast am".[/quote]

Yeah, you’re right slcguy, they are contrails, not chemtrails. Thanks for the correction.

At the risk of adding "management support" to straying off topic, one of the most popular 737 shots in the database is this :) :

I've seen picture of, if I recall correctly, a Hydro Quebec Q400 on the ground someplace way up north in the winter running its APU and the APU is putting out a contrail.

there is a video of a katek avia tu3 that ahd to be pushed back by it's pax, there was a contrail visible on the apu - and it was very cold that day.

also there are several videos of the airport bodaibo, either it is full of mud or it is so cold, that during taxi the an4 trails already condensation. there is also a pic on anet, just search for bodaibo.
