Wed Dec 04, 2019 5:06 pm

Word on the street is Delta and JetBlue may be working on something, possibly a merger.

P=0 without significant divestitures in both BOS and JFK, and nothing else of B6 is worth having.

So because both companies decided not to attend it = possible merger? This would be a hard sell to regulators and JFK (most valuable hub for both)would be gutted of slots as a means to please them

The only thing they would be allowed to work on would be a trade of slots. Not sure what they would trade.

I too am confused why not attending a conference indicates a merger? Isn't Delta's Investor day, on the same day?

I just read the article. Yes, that is the dumbest reason ever to suspect a merger. Btw, it is very common for a company to take a stand on something by not attending a conference and other companies then copy cat it. For example, charging too much to attend, inviting a pariah, making public statements the companies disagree with, etc.

Can they even play nice enough with each other to trade slots? Cause they both seem to hate each other

Based on both backing out of the same conference? Weak.

Given what would need to be true to make a B6/DL merger fly, there is not enough value in it for DL.

It’s not clear why DL cancelled. However, I was talking to a Baggage Claim rep this morning and she said jetBlue backed out because they are looking into a three way: B6, AS and HA.

I don’t understand the logic entirely either but the trading of JetBlue stock is also seeing a huge jump in bullish call options expiring Dec, so somebody knows or suspects something.

It’s only up 2.5%. That’s not a huge jump. JetBlue’s stock takes a rollercoaster ride every other day.

And none for B6. They have shareholders too.

This must be the case, then. However, you should confirm it with at least four FAs, and, if possible, a Pilot. If not available, a Mechanic will do.

JetBlue is super profitable so buying it would mean paying premium. But even if Delta and JetBlue agree on price, they would still need regulatory approval. Also this would mean getting rid of some important slots on JFK and BOS so merger would not be “cost effective”. Also need to take into consideration slot restrictions and possible deregulation like it was on EWR when United exchanged slots with Delta which means huge loss in slot value. In my opinion American or Southwest would be better choice when it comes to competition authorities but would it make economic sense? Would be nice to see bigger Delta hubs at JFK and BOS but don’t it is going to happen.

That’s an interesting question. T4A still has not been extended. You would think something would have been said given LA needing to vacate T8 and the rebuild of T1 and T2 into a new T1. However, the latest master plan didn’t include plans for T4A.

Because of the extreme confidentiality involved in pre-merger talks, DL and B6 would not have said anything to PANYNJ.

No one loves a good merger rumor thread as much as I do, but I can't understand this one. Wheres the beef???

p.s. I guess a b6/delta merger would be swell. Just so long as they don't dare any forced base moves. Oh and fences, very very high fences.

No. AS is going to be hooking up with B6 and HA in a strategic three way. The combined Asia/Pacific, West Coast and East Coast networks along with B6’s European expansion plans will create a formidable player and put an end to all the ridiculous B6/WN rumors.

Guys, I just asked Phoenix Tracon and they told me that Hawaiian and American is already a done deal. I need to make a thread about it now.

Seriously though to the OP, Delta and JetBlue don't even make sense from any perspective. I do have to say that JetBlue is one of the strangest merger partners outside of merging with Alaska.

Perhaps this just someone trying to juice the price of JetBlue or DL stock to make some money off of short term.

JFK and Boston are the stops to that.

I give DL/B6 a 0.0000000000000001% chance
I guve UA/B6 a 0.000000000000001% chance.

There is no gain for them to merge, hundreds of JFK slots would have to be divested and lots of slots in BOS would have to go. There isn’t one good reason for a merger.

Even if DL and B6 were to seriously consider a merger. DOJ would shoot it down faster than I could shoot the ducks on Duckhunt for Nintendo... Both have hubs/large bases in JFK, BOS, and the LA area (DL at LAX, B6 at LGB). Remember US & UA 20 years ago?

Anyway... as others have already stated... Both airlines backing out of a conference is a rather silly reason to speculate a merger off of.

No way. Now how. DL/B6 would not be allowed to merge. I don't see B6 being allowed to merge with AA, DL, or UA. The largest carrier I could possibly see getting approval for a B6 merger would be WN. As others have said, it seems that the most likely scenario would be a B6/AS hookup.
