Thanks for this amazing post. Took me a good 1/2 hr to read it.

My take is:
-It looks like the big winners of this update are PWM, ECP, PNS and (dare I say) ATL; and
-I think we can safely put to rest now any assumptions about EVP’s future within WN.

ECP/PNS are mostly just yearly seasonal adds. I don’t think any are new except the ATL-ECP one

Isn’t something like ECP-ATL a new route and not just a seasonal resumption?

FYI, the 12/11/19 sked release (for next summer) has been discussed all day on the WN Fleet/Network Thread:

Great post on all the cities. For MSP, they really only have 9 regular cities served. Those in Florida are Saturday-only in Jan/Feb/Mar (some only March, really).
So, having the base be just 9 is how I see MSP. Wondering when the MAX returns if WN will add there. Been stagnant for a while.

The ABQ-SAT route unfortunately only operates on the Saturdays before and after Thanksgiving and Christmas, total of four operations. Wonder how many other routes are like that.

It's interesting to me that WN has discontinued all LAS and PHX routes to the Northeast with the exception of BUF. ALB lost their LAS flight a couple of years ago and then they brought it back again last year, only to axe it again.

I'm guessing Canadian traffic helps the routes at BUF? IIRC MHT/BDL/PVD all had PHX and/or LAS at one point.
RJ85, F70, E135, E140, E145, E70, E75, E90, CR2, CR7, CR9, 717, 732, 733, 734, 735, 73G, 738, 739, 744ER, 752, 753, 762, 763ER, 772, 77E, 77W, 789, 319, 320, 321, 332, 333, 343, 359, 388

My guess is and it's only a guess, is that they don't want to run full on transcons from their smaller northeast stations, which ties up an airplane for hours when they can run a shorter stage length flight to DEN, STL, MDW, and even BWI could connect you on a plane that would carry a little more O&D. With those 3 airports combined you can get to nearly every station on the west coast. This shorter stage length could also allow them to squeeze out another short-haul flight that they may have otherwise been unable to do which is a better use of resources.

The bigger players on the east coast obviously have transcons but they can also afford it with better O&D.

That may not be a bad guess. As a domestic flight it avoids $$ U.S. and Canadian border transit fees. Whether Hamiltonians and St Catherinians will continue to support that at sufficient fares I won't predict.

ITA Matrix, taxes/fees YYZ-LAS-YYZ, USD, total $327.15 fare

Canadian Goods and Services Tax (XG)
$11.50
United States APHIS Passenger Fee Passengers (XA)
$3.96

United States Immigration User Fee (XY)
$7.00
US International Arrival Tax (US)
$37.20
Toronto Airport Improvement Fee (SQ)
$18.90
Canadian Harmonized Sales Tax (ON) (RC)
$2.50
Canadian Air Travelers Security Charge (CA)
$9.10
United States Passenger Civil Aviation Security Service Fee (AY)
$5.60
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF)
$4.50

total $106.51

taxes/fees BUF-LAS-BUF, USD, southwest.com, total $280 fare
U.S. Transportation Tax$17.54
U.S. 9/11 Security Fee$11.20
U.S. Flight Segment Tax$8.40
U.S. Passenger Facility Chg$9.00

This is what, the 58th time they've tried this...and SATURDAY ONLY...seasonal...and a 5:00 AM DEPARTURE from OKC.
Then they'll say it didn't work...cancel the route after a short time, and we're screwed out of yet another non-stop market that should be served near-daily (F9 and G4 can somehow make it work, but WN can't).

Same old song and dance for WN at OKC...

That is crazy early but it must work for WN. MDW,STL,MCI,HOU,AUS,BNA etc all have flights to MCO that early on Sat.

That may not be a bad guess. As a domestic flight it avoids $$ U.S. and Canadian border transit fees. Whether Hamiltonians and St Catherinians will continue to support that at sufficient fares I won't predict.

Which makes you wonder how long it will be until WN start serving BLI/Bellingham (or South Vancouver as I call it). Unlike BUF for Toronto, there are plenty of places in Metro Vancouver that are actually closer to BLI than YVR. For me in the burbs, it's 30 min to YVR and 60 to BLI; add to that it's awesome little airport to fly in and out of.
DEN / OAK / HOU / MDW / LAX (I can understand them not wanting to compete with G4's service to LAS)

Hey @flyswa, are you listening?

This route is a gold mine for WN because of the Canadian traffic.. Also BUF - PHX is too but due to MAX shortages. They are cutting that route frequency.

I suppose it is just fascinating to me, as while I can't speak for PVD/BDL/MHT, ALB-LAS survived the recession and was only recently cut around 2017 or so. But I guess as they expanded their assets could be used elsewhere more profitably.

They'd be fine against G4. G4 can't even offer connections.

Correct. ECP-ATL is new. BWI-PNS is also new.

All the other ECP/PNS routes are seasonal resumptions. Though in some cases frequencies have been added.

WN has never flown BDL-PHX, HP and US have in the past however. WN cut BDL-LAS after summer of 2018 I believe, I wonder if Spirit will give it a shot at some point.

How is SMF a bigger count by station than say, MSY, which serves 3 more destinations?

MSY offers 80 departures to 27 destinations, while SMF offers 98 daily departures to 27 destinations - which include all six Southern California airports BUR, LAX, LGB, ONT, SAN and SNA and the large catchment area associated with those six airports. I'm also guessing that MSY probably has a lot of seasonal and/or less-than-daily/weekend only flights geared towards tourism compared to SMF.
2019: DAL, MCI, PHX, LAS, DFW, SAT, ORD, SLC, SEA, DTW, PHL, MIA, LAX; B73G (WN x3), B738 (WN, AA, DL), A20N (NK), MD83 (AA), B788 (AA x2), CS1 (DL), B739 (DL), B712 (DL), B752 (AA), B763 (AA), B77W (AA), B789 (AA)

Yes MSY should be No. 20 with 27 stations followed by SMF at 21 with 24 stations and SAT at 22 with 22 stations. Thanks for the catch.
