Is WN eventually going to give up on ISP I wonder? PBI/FLL/MCO really the biggest reason the station is still open.

WN still carries some O&D passengers on its ISP-BWI nonstop flights, and the PDEW on ISP-BWI was 99 passengers per day in Q2 2019. There are also still many WN nonstop routes within the contiguous U.S. that have lower PDEW's than ISP-BWI.

In addition to significant O&D traffic on the ISP-BWI nonstop route, other factors keeping WN at ISP include LGA slot restrictions and WN offering connections to additional destinations in the eastern half of the Midwest and the Southeast from ISP through BWI.

Weird time of year to be announcing MIA routes. If they were doing this in July / August, I would imagine a ton of winter seasonal routes to PVD, BUF, BTV, PWM, ALB ect.

BDL-PVD was announced in July, not sure about BOS.

5X is the only airline that flies BDL-PVD. :stirthepot:

And the responses are starting:
NK has BWI-SAL listed on its route map pending government approval

Plus they just put out a presser for a big SJU expansion:

Note that ISP and TTN are currently served year-round from FLL, and are simply transferring from FLL to MIA (again) while FLL becomes a seasonal (or discontinued?) station.

Santo Domingo Airport announced yesterday that F9 frontier will be adding 1 daily flight EWR-SDQ, MIA-SDQ and SJU-SDQ, this is very good announcement because Spirit will stop their services from MCO and EWR to SDQ starting March 10 same day that will start serving frontier from EWR. They will compete in Newark with 1 daily flight from B6 and 3 daily flights from UA. From SJU they will compete now with 3 daily flights from B6.

Santiago Airport will compete also with B6 and UA from EWR

Not sure how PVD got in there, I meant MIA. Was a long day yesterday!

BWI-SAL must be a very lucrative, untapped market that NK is willing to fight for. I wonder if they’ll do anything about the Miami flights.

There is 0 chance Cuenca Ecuador would EVER be a possibility for Frontier or ANY airline for long haul ops. The runway Is waaaayyyy to short to ever support it.

I hope TTN-MIA does well. I believe that F9 could definitely make SJU-TTN at a minimum of two times a week work.

Meanwhile PVD sees only 2 daily nonstops on B6 (1 each to FLL and PBI) with weekend only FLL on WN to South Florida in the summer. I know it’s off season but feel this is underserved.

Largest Salvadorian community in the Eastern U.S. is in the DC area.

I don't think this is accurate. The Salvadorian population is roughly equally huge in Maryland as it is in Virginia (roughtly 124,000 in each, based on what Wikipedia is telling me, referencing the 2010 census). A lot of the large populations are in Prince George's County, Maryland and Wheaton and Silver Spring (Montgomery County). BWI is sometimes preferred for these communities.

Also from wikipedia, citing the census:

US communities with the largest population of people of Salvadorean ancestry:
Washington, D.C. – 16,611
Wheaton, Maryland – 8,912
Chillum, Maryland – 7,315
Silver Spring, Maryland – 7,103
Arlington County, Virginia – 7,088
Dale City, Virginia – 7,036
Alexandria, Virginia – 6,436

Being a member of the Salvadoran community, we loath AV for their price gouging on their SAL flights but they're only big talk in the town for several years for non-stop flights unless you do layover at ATL, MIA, IAH, DFW with American, Delta, and United. So having a competitor with attractive pricing will lure people away from them and force AV to lower their prices. It's the same problem at LAX from what I've seen.

BWI-SAL is a very interesting add for Frontier. It's not like Frontier has a large operation at BWI, and now suddenly a very specific international route. Also interesting is that their sister company in Indigo (and codeshare partner?), Volaris Costa Rica, flies from Dulles to SAL. Indigo would now have the Baltimore/DC metro area covered.

I'm not surprised that Spirit added BWI-SAL as they have been growing BWI at a good rate. I expect to see more adds at BWI fro NK.

To me the big news is no Southwest. Both Frontier and Spirit seem to be taking advantage of Southwest's aircraft shortage. I've always wondered why Southwest doesn't flew BWI-SAL, especially since Southwest performs aircraft maintenance at SAL.
