It is only an explanation to why there is domestic flights in Denmark, the island Bornholm should the only one served.
I think people are being too optimistic by thinking that trains can go literally everywhere. I'm a strong proponent of the train/railways, but I believe most of Scandinavia and Northern Britain should be connected by air (perhaps electric planes?) because the distances are long, geographically complicated and with low population density. You can see these problems in Japan where most far flung places are mainly connected through air (all the islands to the south of Japan and to an extent the northernmost parts of Japan) because they're all islands which are simply extortionate to connect through railway lines. But I think that some routes can be done by train, for example Stockholm - Copenhagen - Hamburg, or Oslo - Gothenburg - Malmo.
