It is only an explanation to why there is domestic flights in Denmark, the island Bornholm should the only one served.

I think people are being too optimistic by thinking that trains can go literally everywhere. I'm a strong proponent of the train/railways, but I believe most of Scandinavia and Northern Britain should be connected by air (perhaps electric planes?) because the distances are long, geographically complicated and with low population density. You can see these problems in Japan where most far flung places are mainly connected through air (all the islands to the south of Japan and to an extent the northernmost parts of Japan) because they're all islands which are simply extortionate to connect through railway lines. Airhansa - can you provide some sort of rationale for a tie-up between Finnair and TAP ? They are in different alliances, which is not a good starting point

Interference? No. Expressing opinions and trying to create pressure for serving as extensive domestic network as feasible? Definitely, and smartly so.

There's this urban legend of some AY domestic services being served purely for MP commuting convenience. While the politicians are surely pleased that the services exist, it's just plain silly to suggest that they exist only for political reasons. Despite of what some HEL-centric Finns (like me) seem to believe, there's actually life and economic activity in other parts of Finland too. It would also be interesting to see some evidence for the claims that several destinations have "zero likelihood of profitability".

Obviously, the fact that they are not being flown now suggests that profitability is not the greatest though. Still, like mentioned before, the slump in international traffic in general bears significance with this.

Zero synergy.

AY & TP code-share at the moment, but that appears to be mostly to provide connections between Finland & Portugal in a better way.

IAG would be AY's perfect fit. Any potential benefit from a tie-up with TP could be reached with IB in a much better way.

According to what I've read, Air Gotland Express has wetleased a Saab 340 for the route you mentioned. First flight will be in december and it will be interesting to see how many airlines the Stockholm-Visby route can take.

As per FR24 there are still 4 SK A340s at CPH. I saw one at the C gates (stored) and one at the de-Icing area last time I was at CPH, about 10 days ago.

There are a number of them stored on Appron West and Deicing TWY A along with some narrow bodies.

Air Leap are not only operating Saabs, they have now recieved their first ATR72-500.

From what I read in Swedish media, FlygBRA is close to reach an agreement with their creditors. 75% of the debt is to be written off and they will resume flying in September

On an unrelated note, seems like JU's BEG-OSL flight is performing fantastically despite covid. This afternoon's flight out of BEG has 6 in business and 120 in economy! Last Sunday's flight to BEG had 110 passengers with 25 continuing to ATH and 26 to TIA and 7 connected from SK's domestic network. If circumstances were better I am sure they would have a third weekly.

Last Monday August 3rd, KLM increased its network to three full connecting banks at AMS; morning, afternoon and evening. (Pre-COVID 5x connecting banks)
As a result many Nordic stations either re-opened or saw significant frequency increases:

Finally! We see the beginning of the end of the 737 dominance on Norwegian domestic routes! They have been around since Braathens introduced them in the late 60’s, and since SAS phased out the DC/MDs they have been the only thing in the skies, while Airbuses has been rare exotic animals only to be read about in fairytales.
The 737 density/capita of Norway has got to have been record-breaking.

This is a very good move by SAS, and will set them apart from Norwegian still flying their 60’s hand powered dinosaur death traps;-)

The breakdown by nationality of departing passengers reveals that Danes were the most common visitors, followed by Germans. Both Denmark and Germany or on the list of "safe" countries in Iceland so those arriving from there do not need to undergo Covid19 screening at the airport. Denmark is also the only nationality that increased (by 32.7%) from July 2019.

The most common nationality of visitors in July 2019 was USA but there has of course been a total collapse of tourism from there (-99.4%). China was the third most common source of visitors in July 2019 and has likewise collapsed (-99.1%).

If we look the the traffic per month in 2020 compared to the same month in 2019, OSL is leading the recovery, while also CPH and KEF is starting to catch up

Mora (MXX) has been without flights for a while. In 2018 the PSO route ARN-MXX-EVG became a direct route to Sveg and when the airport in Sälen (SCR) opened in 2019, BRA moved the seasonal AGH-MXX to SCR. But now the local politicians in Mora and Sälen are trying to get year round traffic to their airport and have asked the government for a new PSO route ARN-MXX-SCR.

Global warming is not canceled, it is a deeply serious issue that affects all of us, and airtravel will not continue unaffected by this. ESPECIALLY not in the nordics.

Why is my comment off-topic? Other users brought her up. I am merely giving my personal opinion about the subject.

Why is my comment immature? Because I should protect a child and support her distorted view of the world? I think her parents should have protected her by keeping her out of the media. Better to finish school and start working on a better world than to stay away from school and never stop talking about the end of the world. Negative people don't inspire me. Why is my comment insane? You do realize this is a website for aviation enthusiasts? And that most of us prefer aviation to prosper instead of what we have been witnessing recently? We all know global warming hasn't been canceled. We also do know aviation worldwide emits far less than car traffic worldwide, agriculture worldwide and the industry worldwide. We certainly are not going to 'save' the planet by flying much less in the future. There are bigger fish to catch.

When this whole pandemic thing is over, I am sure to book a couple of extra flights to the Nordics to make up for lost travels. Earlier this year I had a great trip to Sweden canceled. I was really looking forward to fly on the Fokker 50. I will try again next year and look for the Saab 340 also.

P.S. Did you know that the sailing yacht that took her 'green' across an ocean was ferried back to Europe by crew who first used Lufthansa to cross the same ocean?

I used to fly that ARN-MXX-EVG route and as I recall, demand to and from Mora was never all that high except for some days in summer season, so I'm not surprised. Trying to tag onto an SCR route will mostly just inconvenience travelers to SCR I think.

A couple of years ago, the weekend before Vasaloppet - ie when the amateurs were racing - the Sunday flight from Mora had very few pax to Stockholm. If a peak weekend when Mora was full led to very few pax... is there really a need for the airport in addition to the train ?
