Hey everyone, was checking out Flightradar24 and saw QF9 (departed Perth on the 30th) took 17 hours and 59 minutes. Is this the longest recorded flight and would the flight crew have anticipated this extra flight time?

No it will be the third longest for QF9. ON 18 April 2019 QF9 clocked in at 18hrs and 15 mins and the 19th April 2019 at 18hrs20mins.

Yes the crew would have anticipated the extra flight time, I would also imagine a few seats would have been blocked to account for the extra flight time

I am quite curious how are cabin crew selected for such flight? Do they have a special batch of crew which are assigned to such ULH flight? I know SQ has few group of crew doing LAX/NY non stop flight.

Just the normal London crew operate the flight.

Of course Qantas has calculated the maximum possible duration for this flight, considering factors such as headwinds.

Yes. Until the Perth flight, they never operated to Australia, just as far as the en route stop eg DXB, SIN etc. I was on the inaugural LHR PER and the flight attendant in my section had never been to Australia in her life before. Even Qantas recruitment and training for the LHR base takes place in and around London.

JW...the cabin crew who operate QF2 only as far as SIN and QF10 only as far as PER are all UK based. From memory they have 24hrs layover in each city before operating the return duty. The flight deck crews were Aussie based.

What's the average fuel burn for these flights? Given its weight on departure from LHR/PER, how restricted is in terms of its initial flight level?

(I'm guessing about 120t uplift and 108t burn, based on average 6t/hr.).

It leaves PER with maximum fuel which is 102 tonnes, usually burns around 92 tonnes for the whole flight

Any idea of the load or fuel burn? We know from the sunrise test flights it’s capable of staying up a long time.

Extrapolating from the data we have on qf9 already it could have made it with about 185-190pax.

QF LHR based crew have actually been operating to Australia for quite a few years now. In addition to PER, they regularly operate to MEL and SYD (via SIN) as well.
After the QF 10 from LHR, the layover for the cabin crew is 48-72 hours in PER.

so now i know the longest timed flight but let's ask the other way around the shortest flight time ?surely on QF10 flight ou was it a QF9 flight? ,

The winds this time of the year are flowing east-bound. QF10 LHR-PER is making it in 15.5 hours.

QF10 arriving in Perth today had a flight time of only 15:10 according to FR24 (landing well over an hour earlier than schedule).
