I wonder if 2020 we will see any surprises from the small-and-not-so-small established players in the region ... I'm thinking the likes of RJ, KU, WY, etc.

I guess that LY are already testing the waters for TLV-MEL, any other thoughts or predictions for some out-of-the-box ideas for the year?

Two Emirates A380s are currently enroute to MRU. 4 EK A380s will be on ground at the same time.

Any reason for this?

MRU only has one A380 stand. It'll be quite a sight to see 4 A380's at a relatively small airport.

Since there was a cyclone (class 3 warning) in Mauritius on the 30th December, the airport was closed and the 2 daily EK flights were cancelled. The next day, on the 31st, EK rescheduled the 2 flights of the 30th and delayed the other 2 flights of the day since the airport only reopened at noon.
The airport actually has 2 A380 stands, one of which is remote.
At this peak period (the busiest for the airport), MRU saw 4 A380 flights by EK, 2 flights from BA, AF, SA, TK and more than 10 flights to Reunion Island and Rodrigues each in a period of 24 hours, without forgetting the multiple rescheduled MK flights to India, Europe, South Africa and China.

Yikes, I assume that is related to the Soleimani assassination. Expect more changes/precautions like this until things cool off.

I don't think so, the US and Iran are not in open war. They are fighting each other via their proxies so that's where fireworks will take place.

Emirates to upgrade Milan to three daily A380s.

EK101/102 is a current B777 flight. Will be upgraded to an A380 from 29MAR20.

This will make MXP served by 3 daily A380s.

At first had thought this might be due to maintenance, but if it was Turkmenistan Airlines would keep one city (e.g. DXB) and put the other (e.g. AUH) on hold - people can drive an hour or so from one city to the other. Perhaps there is something more going on?

The new Saudia uniforms look nice - a bit loose for Saudi culture but a nice step - looks like a hybrid of KU and Etihad.

Interestingly enough, if you notice on the timeline at the beginning of the clip, their uniform design has been becoming more and more conservative over the decades. Just look at their uniforms from the 1960s.

My guess is that Saudia is trying to be more open and welcoming especially now when they are trying to create a hub. Saudi Arabia doesn't have a good reputation around the world. These uniforms are quite ok, step in the right direction that's for sure.

The 40 unidentified A330NEO orders I guess are for Emirates.

Emirates was advertising a job in the airline to work on the upcoming A330-900 and A359 aircraft.

I guess it goes to show how badly those A330s are missed, I don't think they ever successfully replaced them with anything. They were perfect for smaller or newly launched markets.

I had a feeling the order was for EK. I wonder if it will impact their final 777X orders. There is no definitive word on the certification timescale. STC was calling for at least 16months.

If the 777X is designated an all new plane, then the deliveries won't start for a while. SQ has already seen their deliveries pushed to 2022.

Will this be true...EK to launch Maputo.
Somewhere else I've read that they actually plan to do DXB-MPM-GBE.
I just can't see how Gaborone can sustain this as well...QR have only recently started GBE 3 weekly via JNB...any indication how this is going?

If true...will EK do the effort to apply for 5th freedom between MPM and GBE?

Just seeing this. Shocking that it would take until mid-2021 to implement this uniform while they're already deploying it to CDG and LHR? Typo?

I've read somewhere that March 6th will be the first aircraft trial, and then it will start welcoming visitors for the F1 Grand Prix before eventually opening to all passengers

We have all been expecting it to open at 9000 different 'promised' times since the original opening date which was 7 July 2017. The current launch date is ... ah wait, forget it. Let's just wait until it is open.
