With the 3rd anniversary of the Qatar blockade soon upon us, why have no foreign carriers commenced 5th Freedom routes between DOH and DXB/AUH/BAH etc. KLM, LH and LX already operate 5th Freedom in the Gulf, seems lucrative and they specifically carved out foreign airlines from the blockade.

That said, of course no chance of a 5th freedom between Saudi and DOH (my guess).

I doubt any third party airline would get permission to operate to DOH from blockading countries. I think there's a ban on any flights between Qatar and the blockading countries in any case.

I believe the ban is on national airlines flying INTO Qatar and a ban on QR coming into their hubs. That said, even if not written, I presume no one wants to be involved

MEA has painted one of their A320s in a retro livery. The late 60s livery that was on the 707/747.

Any news on the new MEA deliveries? I can't imagine they will arrive on time (mostly due to MEA financing issues). Separately, I read that within 2 weeks JED will resume all domestic flights and all flights will be in the new terminal. Any news on international (once back up and running)? BAH? AUH?

Kuwait Airways to sack 1500 expats:
https://www.zawya.com/mena/en/economy/story/Kuwait_Airways_sacks_1500_expat_employees-SNG_175511237/

Not surprising given the context but surprised it so openly targets expats.

Anyone have news or thoughts on routes for this? I assume CDG and LHR will continue with A332 (although perhaps this would replace one of the A320s on LHR. Perhaps this new aircraft will go to FRA, DXB, RUH? FCO?

I heard pre covid the plan was to launch Kinshasa . But I am not sure about it now. Hopefully they send it to Madrid instead of the 320 that flight is always packed and only 3 times x week

In light of decreased travel with COVID (and beyond), any chance of Kuwait using their new A338 on JFK or other long haul routes of theirs? I've flown JFK-KWI and have found it quite empty, so I wonder if this could be a better fit (assuming it has the legs on departure from KWI in the summer.

I think it will be used on routes to LHR, DXB. BKK. MNL and BOM.

Here’s a summary of a tweet i found on twitter:
In an interview with CNBC Arabia, Emirates CCO, Adnan Kazim, has stated that the in the current economic climate, the airline will need the capcity of Flydubai’s B737s and that Flydubai’s fleet is a part of Emirates fleet, and some of Emirates destinations will be moved and served by Flydubai.

Guess it makes sense just now. The MAX would be closer to the EK product but still running low number of pax on a 777 is expensive. Better to use a 737. They did it already before Covid with Yangon and seasonal Zagreb.

Please check your post as it contains a few mistakes. For example, AUH (Abu Dhabi) is not an extension to the AMS-RUH-DMM flight, and there is no such flight as AUH-AUH.

In the article it’s written that MLE is back due to popular demand. Why did the airline drop it? Or is it a seasonal service?

It's not seasonal. It was dropped because DXB was at the time slot restricted and the slots were given to EK to add frequency to MLE. More money to be made with another 773 vs 738 rotation.
In these Covid times it probably makes more sense sending a 737 if you (EK/Dubai) want to keep market share at the lowest possible cost.

https://press.airarabia.com/air-arabia- ... -to-sudan/

With this, along with AUH-HBE, could this be a full replacement instead of EY, or more like co-existing as do on AUH-CAI, and will do on AUH DAC?

On a side note, looks like AUH-TAS is on the cards too.
