Out of curiosity, will AA use and 332/333 on domestic hub-to-hub routes out of PHL or CLT this year?

Currently, AA are deploying some of their A333’s onto the CLT-PHX-HNL rotation, as well deploying their A333’s onto the CLT-LAS route.

In terms of PHL, AA mostly dispatch their A332/333 aircraft onto the PHL-LAX route. This flight is currently assigned to the A332 aircraft, however the A333 was also deployed onto the same route.

AA also used to send their A332/333 aircraft to MIA from PHL a couple of years ago. But currently, MIA is dominated by the 767s which are slowly dwindling in size from the AA fleet. I’m not too sure as to whether if we will see a return of the Airbus widebody to MIA this year, but I wouldn’t be surprised as to when the A332/333 becomes a common visitor for domestic flying at MIA in the future, after AA pulls the plug on the 767s.

From what I had seen earlier in the year, it sounded like the 788s would end up supplanting the 767s on PHL-MIA, unless I'm confusing that with PHL-CLT. Regardless, I'm glad I got that 767 flight in last year before they're retired. I also thought MIA would be seeing more 788s when the new planes are put into service (again, I might be thinking of CLT instead of MIA).
2019: DAL, MCI, PHX, LAS, DFW, SAT, ORD, SLC, SEA, DTW, PHL, MIA, LAX; B73G (WN x3), B738 (WN, AA, DL), A20N (NK), MD83 (AA), B788 (AA x2), CS1 (DL), B739 (DL), B712 (DL), B752 (AA), B763 (AA), B77W (AA), B789 (AA)

MIA is to see it's first 788 revenue flight in early 2020 unless something comes along before then. MIA sees the 763 to several SA cities so AA would need to either upgauge to a 772 or bring in the 788. PHL by 2021 will see a mix of 788/332/333/757s on Transatlantic so the turns between MIA will ultimately go 332/333/788.

Has AA updated it's fleet plan for 2020/2021 yet? Are all the 763s to be retired by 12/31/2020? I think at least at one time six would remain going into 2021.

This winter the 333s are on CLT-PHX-HNL-PHX-CLT and briefly on PHL-PHX (in February only, IIRC). The 332s show up on CLT-MCO (sometimes multiple times daily), and both CLT-SJU and PHL-SJU see 332/333 rotations.

Looking forward into the summer, PHL-LAX, PHL-CLT, and PHL-SJU are currently scheduled to see 332 rotations. We'll see in the coming weeks if those stick (the summer schedules aren't finalized yet, and probably won't be for a month or more), but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. There aren't currently any domestic 333 rotations planned in the summer, as those aircraft are needed for higher TATL lift to FCO, ATH, etc.

Let's hope not, 20 Business Class seat are not enough. AA needs to put close to 30 J class seats plus 4 rows of Y + seats which is 28 seats at 7 per row, if that removes too economy seats so be it. Hoping AA will standardizes all the seats in their old and new 787-8.

With an eventual fleet of 42 788s, I wonder if AA will end up having multiple configurations of this aircraft. On some routes where the 788 will presumably end up taking over for 763s (MIA-GYE, MIA-MVD, PHL-TXL, PHL-BUD, etc.), the lower J count could work well as these destinations are more leisure/VFR oriented. For other routes such as LAX/DFW-PEK, DFW-CDG, ORD-LHR/CDG, etc. they might benefit from being able to sell more J seats.

The current fleet plan shows 11 763s retirements this year, with only 6 aircraft remaining at year end.

To replace those aircraft, the plan is to take delivery of 12 788s this year, for a total of 32 aircraft at year end.

Wondering will those six 763s continue to do Transatlantic flights until retired or relegated to MIA to do a few SA routes and some domestic turns during the day.

PHL-LAS: 763
PHL-LAX: 763/788/332
PHL-BOS: 332 for a month

I'd guess they might stick to MIA at the very end. Most of the TATL routes that continue to utilize 763s are summer seasonal.

So is PIT not doing the deliveries anymore? Bummer if that's the case... :(

Edit: I guess the XFW built ones will still go through PIT since it can make it nonstop there on the ferry flight.

- N870NN ferried DFW-TUL 1/6 and N915NN (TWA retro livery) ferried PIT-GSO 1/7 - both are also getting the updated version of the 737 Oasis cabin.

955NN is back in revenue service. Apparently it did not get the v2 Oasis cabin. Just v1.

Perhaps there are other programs going on at PIT that limit available hangar space?

Yes, that was excellent, thanks!

Still sucks big-time that they've not re-thought the seat-back IFE screens. Had that on a new-build-AA A321ceo back in Sept. and man was it nice. They're idiots to remove them.

Yeah, it's nice. You can have it on every mainline flight (except the retiring MDs and the 717s) if you fly Delta.

What is irritating is the lack of standard configurations on all aircraft. PHX to BDL thru PHL was on A321's no seat power no screens. BDL to CLT was a 737-800 and had seat power ports both 110 and USB. It also had seat back screens. CLT to PHX A321 with no power and no screens. No excuse for this on a 4 hour plus flight. If your going to offer inflight WiFi and entertainment provide power. I was in First on all flights. At least the paid Via Sat WiFi is decent speed

AA has a program going to standardize the mainline aircraft. It is complicated by having aircraft from both LAA and LUS, plus the age expanse of their fleet. It will probably be another two years before the fleets are standardized due to the number of aircraft involved.

By 2022 everything will look the same. 737 all the same. 321 all the same.

I don't know if they changed their mind in the last 6 months
Another major development for the airline’s fleet is its retirement of aging Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. American Airlines has announced that its fleet of the smaller wide-body aircraft will be retired by the end of 2020, and will be replaced by the larger and modernized Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A330 aircraft. Currently, the 767 operates from several of the airline’s bases, including its larger New York – JFK and Miami hubs. - JULY 31, 2019 (Ref https://aeronauticsonline.com/american- ... eet-plans/)

So now we can safely say that all ex-Frontier 319 have gone into service?

I'm interested in this as well. It seems like at least a few of the new batch will need to be operational by June in order to cover the currently scheduled summer flying for the fleet. Loaded as of now for June:

LAX-PEK x1
DFW-SCL x1
DFW-EZE x1
DFW-MUC x1
DFW-PEK x1
ORD-DUB x1
ORD-LHR x1 (RONs at both ORD and LHR)
ORD-BCN x1
ORD-CDG x1
ORD-FCO x1
ORD-VCE x1
ORD-KRK x5 weekly
ORD-PRG x5 weekly
ORD-BUD x4 weekly
ORD-ATH x1
PHL-AMS x1
PHL-ZRH x1

The domestic segments don't appear to be finalized for June yet, but based on May schedules I'd expect at least a daily rotation on each of DFW-ORD, DFW-PHL, and one or both of DFW-LAX and PHL-LAX. By my count that flying likely requires at least 21 frames, and I assume AA will want to have an additional 1-2 on hand as spares.
This is my signature until I think of a better one.

Both N870AX and N871AY should have been delivered long before June. And there will probably be additional B787-8s delivered before or around that time period. And, return to China flying is still very much in the air (so to speak) due to the flu going on there and other places.

Next AA A321NEO, N411AN, had it's Customer Acceptance flight today. Have not heard when it will be delivered, but I'd guess sometime this week.

TUL is officially handling all A321neo deliveries for AA from this point onward. PIT is being regulated back to just heavy MX work.

Is there a reason why AA is shifting induction from PIT to TUL?

Supposedly it's to better utilize resources.

When are AA's A321NEO N411AN and N416AN going to be delivered? And when are N414AL and N415AN going to go into service?

American Airlines Widebody Fleet Renewal

Tue Mar 03, 2020 9:49 pm

Didn’t see it discussed anywhere so delete if necessary.

American currently has its most recent batch of 787s slated to replace the 767-300ER, the A330-300, and the older 777-200ERs, plus allow for modest growth. That leaves a couple dozen slightly newer 777-200ERs (the -300ERs will stay) and the A330-200, which are early 2010s builds I believe.

What will American do down the road to replace these? They are fond of the 787 but will they put all their eggs in the 787 basket? Does the A330neo have a chance at replacing these, especially with the 330 type already at AA?

I mean they have 22 787-8s about to begin coming online as 767-300ER replacements alone. Plus another 25 787-9 for either growth or other replacements. 787 seems to be the future at AA, they are set to have close to 90 of them when all current orders are complete. I think we will see the 787-10 down the road.

I could see AA ordering around 20 779's for their largest routes and the existing
20 77W's would then replace older 77E's on a 1 for 1 basis. They could then
order some more 789's / 78J's to replace the rest of the 77E fleet.
