It's not just the delivery flight itself. Extensive acceptance testing would normally be taking place. This would include one or more flights as well as thoroughly checking every little detail before transfer of ownership takes place.

UA has three 789s on the CHS flightline, one on FAL, Two more Parts Arriving, last two in bits and pieces across the planet. At one time this was great news. Now, not so much.
The last -9 is LN1058, the next UA -10 is LN1114...

Apparently production rate is outstripping delivery rate and Boeing is having problems finding places to park 787s: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... d-787-jets

I'm shocked, shocked.

It isn't just the 787, all widebody production is over-heated (still). I do not predict a quick widebody recovery. Hopefully I am being pessimistic.

Sword of Damocles hanging over the 787.

If production falls below level X, activates supplier / sub-contractor opt out clauses, requiring Boeing to acquire equipment, IP (if relevant) and personnel, or pay compensation (increased unit price). To avoid triggering, Boeing will continue to purchase and stockpile parts in excess of those needed for production, because the hiatus of finding new manufacturing or bringing in house will create greater problems (for now).

Boeing will have halved the production rate by 2022 so they would already be working with their suppliers on reducing production runs (and yes, there will probably be some financial transactions involved in those reductions).

That would have to be CHS, then, since it is the only facility that can assemble the 787-10.

Looks like July was a bad month for deliveries from my observations. Only 4 deliveries that I can see : 2x 787s (AF,TK), 1x 777F (BOX) and 1x 767 (FX). No 737 types. Worst on record? I guess we'll see when the numbers are released mid month.

Actually may be 3x 787s as UA N24980 sneaked out a few hours ago to Chicago so depends whether that one got signed off yesterday or today.

B789 mystery. Hex decodes to N787BK. Not seeing any candidates in my listings which would fit a 988 that are PAE built. LN 1037 would fit but I don't think that's out yet.

Edit : it's just dawned on me that the hex for N787BK is AAAAAA so reg is a red herring I think and is using a duff hex.

They are stored because no one is really clamoring for brand new wide bodies at the moment.

No where in that link is it is saying that Boeing is storing completed jets due that issue. All it says is that new planes will be fixed at the factory before delivery. Boeing has known about the issue since February, there is a chance that the problem is not even present on these new builds.

The storage of the 787 is because airlines don’t want new widebodies right now (for fairly obvious reasons) and PAE is running out of space. You will notice that that list of recent flights to VCV only consists of 787s for 3 airlines:

-Norwegian is no longer taking their 787s as announced earlier this year and those planes are being stored until Boeing finds a new customer for them.

-Qatar already has 7 789s stored at VCV that they have contractually taken delivery of but not placed into service (originally delayed due to seat delays involving their new business class). These 787s are joining QR’s already stored frames

-Juneyao is a fairly small Chinese carrier that does not need more 787s during the pandemic.

This is the 'true' full list of all the 787s stored at VCV (which stretches back to early July). As you can see, it includes aircraft from a WIDE variety of airlines, and consists of all types (8, 9, 10). As others have stated, this is purely because there's no demand for more wide bodies in this crisis. (This info can be found in the link to my spreadsheet in my signature). Turkish 789 TC-LLO was supposed to fly to VCV today, but it looks like they flew out Vistara's 789 instead. Expect TC-LLO to follow probably tomorrow. RobK is correct regarding the Qatar 789s, all of the others already flew out a while ago (early summer or so).

I see in the latest Boeing firing order that All Nippon seem to have cancelled all their upcoming 787-9s. Looks like some changes could be in progress for their built undelivered ones too.

Seems like NH wants to cancel all the troublesome RR-powered 789s and decided to wait for its GE-powered airframes from its latest order to come yet?

(or it doesn't have enough cash to receive more airframes these days.)

Wait a minute, I thought that Boeing suspended all the delivery due to some recent problems found on hundreds of 787 recently?
