FSD was also double daily this past winter and combine that with the pent up leisure demand right now and it should do quite well.

Boutique to begin PHX-PSP...I'd like to try this; sure as HELL beats a HIDEOUSLY BORING 5-hour drive!! Fares aren't too awful from what I just saw on their website...they've at least got a non-ref. fare as low as $119 one-way, and in Amadeus GDS I'm getting a flight for just $74, so it seems that like with JSX, flexibility is key to get a low fare.

Boutique Air from October 2020 is adding service to Palm Springs, on board Pilatus PC-12 aircraft. From 01OCT20, the airline schedules 1 daily flight each from both Los Angeles and Phoenix.

Los Angeles – Palm Springs
4B383 LAX1330 – 1415PSP PL2 D
4B382 PSP1200 – 1245LAX PL2 D

Phoenix – Palm Springs
4B381 PHX1010 – 1130PSP PL2 D
4B384 PSP1445 – 1605PHX PL2 D

How slow are you driving? I've done PHX-So Cal several times this summer and can easily hit PSP in three hours from my house by Sky Harbor. It's an easy drive. That being said, I'd much prefer flying so I can sleep. Or have a Tesla so I can sleep and let my spaceship do the work. :D

New route for Boutique but not for AA; for years there have been Eagle flights between PSP and PHX for those not wishing or able to drive. I booked one for someone back in 2018; I think it was on a CRJ200. Looks like these days Skywest is flying a CRJ700 on the route.

PHX-PSP has been a long time route dating back to the HP days. Winter peak season even sees 319/738s. Typically 4-7x daily.

And to go back even further in history, in the mid-1970s, AA ran a DC10 on PHX-PSP. I wonder what the loads were like.

Hmmm. Maybe it was 4hrs., I can't remember for sure now. And unlike many PHX drivers, we don't do 90; I limit myself to no more than 10 over the posted speed limit. But regardless of speed, it's still a BORING drive!

Most of it was probably through traffic from ORD; there were no online connections available. Looking at the schedule, the turnaround was only 41 minutes for the DC-10! Southwest won't do that for the -800.

Need to make a stop in Quartzite and poke around the airport and the stored aircraft there. But otherwise, a terribly boring drive.

Is there any press release from AA regarding PHX-LAP/LTO service, or are those new routes still rumored?

Both are loaded from December.

LAP 3x weekly, LTO 4x weekly, both on CRJ-700s.

Yes it's something like that. I've heard there are some other planes around the city too.

Hey Everyone,

I was thinking where could AA possibly go next from PHX, in the last 2-3 years when F9 announced routes AA shortly followed, COS, MSN, GRR, FAR with the exception of ORF & RSW. I pulled the data for both and had decent load factors, with RSW recently getting LAX & SEA, I can see this seasonal at 5 weekly and ORF would be good to connect the entire west coast. What do you think?

F9-ORF, average 139 pax, 76% occ from November 2018 - April 2019, 2 weekly
F9-RSW, average 137 pax, 75% occ from December 2018 - February 2019, 3 weekly

Also last winter AA launched a handful of routes MSY, CID, FAR, CVG, RAP, CUU, ICT, COS with all but RAP, ICT, COS and CUU not loaded for W20.
I only included the data until February, as March has steep declines for obvious reasons

RAP I was surprised how low with pax and occ considering G4 has run AZA-RAP for many years and during peak times at daily.
COS in March AA ran up to 3 daily flights, 1 mainline and 2 express, I'm not sure why this hasn't return

AA-RAP, average 42 pax, 65% occ from September 2019 - February 2020
AA-ICT, average 48 pax, 61% occ from December 2019 - February 2020
AA-COS average 105 pax, 76% occ from December 2019 - February 2020

This upcoming W20 AA will launch BIL, BIS, BNA, CLE, YYC, LAP & LTO lets see how this goes.

After all this, the only voids I see are BZN, MSO, FCA, PSC, LIT, SDF, PIA

I have complied all PHX route details from 2015 and can share if anyone likes

Here is an interesting article about AA ops in PHX and comparisons to some other AA hubs. Interesting to note, AA has scheduled only 2 less routes than the previous year.

I feel like they could make that year-round if they really wanted to, I'm sure the demand even before COVID was/is there to be able to fill a 772.

Maybe not, what with HA running an A330 year-round. I dare say HA might be more popular here than AA. They sure are with me, and I'm AAdvantage Gold for life while being a nobody with HA.

I couldn't yesterday morning, but I can today. Yesterday showed 2 PSP-LAX but no PHX after October 15. Today it shows one each on PHX and LAX.

Good to see a widebody going to HNL. Remember, LIH doesn't have a PHX nonstop since the 757's are gone, and the A321neo can't make the trip. So, to get to LIH from PHX you have to connect, which sucks, that's my favorite Hawaii destination. Hopefully they will operate it when they get the A321 XLR.

All I can say is duh....LOL....

I was looking at October flights....

My bad.... Never mind! :)

Now I gotta try to put together a LIH trip...provided I can get covid test in 72 hours. (I've already had Covid, not fun, I don't recommend it)

Personally, I dont think its that boring. I enjoy it when Ive done it.

But I do enjoy the fact both cities have air connections as well. PSP is a very nice town.

I have no doubt that this decision was made several months ago. This route was doomed the day that COVID sent global aviation off the cliff. Unfortunately it seems like LH and PHX have just never been in sync. Hopefully it isn't another 15+ years before they try again.

I believe Kauai is going to require you to get a second negative rapid test ~72 hours after arrival. During that period, you’re stuck in the resort bubble. My Maui friends are not happy the tourists are coming back. They’ve thoroughly enjoyed the empty beaches and dirt cheap, palatial AirBNBs. Luckily all but one are employed in non-tourisim fields, and the one who is, has a very good fall back degree.

Yeah, we are gonna wait a few months and see how this works. It would be nice if they took the antibody test, or took into account those of us who had Covid.

I can imagine a lot of the first tourists will be given the stink-eye, I get it....

They made the request, but as far as I know the Gov denied that second test. As a result the big island opted out of the pre-test program, Maui & Oahu opted in. I haven't seen anything to indicate that Kaui would opt out so far, so I assume they are still in even without the second test.

Yeah, it seems that’s the case and I missed that article when I posted the reply last night. Of all the islands, Kauai was the most strict from the beginning. From what I heard in April, they had police follow people to their hotels/quarantine locations. No idea if that’s true, but that’s what I was hearing from friends over there. I’m sure it’ll change again before Oct 15.

Does that mean stuck in the condo with no food? Can't go to Big Save?

No you go Big Save!

I believe food delivery was acceptable on all the islands. Of course, if you don’t have the network to get you delivery, it would be difficult to quarantine for 14 days since Uber is limited everywhere except Honolulu. The health dept was very serious about quarantine checks too. A coworker’s son moved to Maui and had six or seven visits from health officials during his 14 day quarantine, including on day 12 and 13!

I still wish my wife and I moved out there in March. I half joked about it, but it sure would have been more enjoyable than this summer in Phoenix!

That’s an interesting route to add.

YAY! Trying to remember if we'd already heard about this and I've just forgotten? But in any case, very glad for this in case we ever go back there, would rather fly on WN than Boutique.

WN had announced PSP but only announced their actual routes two days ago.

I would expect more. Most people do not realized how much AA has added in PHX relative to its other hubs. This November, PHX has more seats than any other hub (domestically) behind DFW and Charlotte. Even including international, PHX just slips behind MIA but is still ahead of everything else. ORD, PHL, DCA, LAX, LGA, and MIA (domestically) are all below Phoenix.

For now, just LIT but you can bet that now that Envoy will have PHX as a regular airport in its Ops Spec that it will give AA some more flexibility in gauge and routings. Likely not more than 10 flights per day as that starts to be where MX and crew reliability issues come into play but it does open the door.

The problem now gate space - PHX simply can't handle any more flights without adding another bank or more gates.
