Total 9 more to go and then the A380 production line is closed.
If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!

9 more to go, but only five left to build, for which the assembly line in TLS is needed, correct? After that, they can re-purpose the building/line as they see fit, I guess. Is this where A321 capacity in TLS is coming from?

One more than the L-1011. Amazing.

Obviously it still has to be transferred to TLS but does anyone have an estimate on when MSN272 will fly?

I would like to know as well.

I am thinking of making a quick turnaround trip to see the plane at TLS before delivery to the airline and the ferry flight to NRT.

I suspect there will be more substantial testing done at TLS than at Finky before the ANA crews take her home to NRT.
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

I'm assuming you mean MSN 266? The one hat actually belongs to ANA. It hasn't done any of its Cabin Test Flights yet. Until that is complete it won't be flying to TLS.

Thank you for your reply. So easy to get mixed up with MSN numbers.

Thinking of ANA Orange third/final Turtles aircraft that came out of the paint shop.

What do you mean by cabin test flights?

For all the years I've been linked with the A380 since I attended the first original test flight
I never paid any attention to this.

These will be ground test I suppose?

How long will they take?

Cabin test flight comes after outfitting, before the customer acceptance flights. If the frame is delivered from TLS, one of the cabin test flights is used to move the frame to TLS.

Cabin test flights are performed to check if the cabin furnishing is able to resist the stress of the flight. Furnishing is made of thousands of plastic/composite parts and sometimes, some parts are damaged due to the tight tolerances. There is some rework to be made before customer acceptance.

MSN 266 should be in TLS during Week 12 (March 16th). Don't book your flight, it can be delayed.

N14AZ, thanks for your many contributions on those threads. I remember when I was following almost feverishly your reports on the whereabouts of the very first few A380.

Thank you very much for your interesting information.

I will be in Athens March 18-19 returning 20 March. I am going to the Olympic Torch hand over ceremony from Greece to Japan.
A special livery red and white B787 aircraft which is neither JAL or ANA will carry the Olympic Torch back to Japan.

The flights will be handled by dual JAL/ANA flight deck and cabin crew.
You can see the plane here (link). She looks really pretty. I will see the plane in Athens.

https://www.olympic.org/news/tokyo-2020 ... mpic-flame

I hope I can combine both events.

Neither JAL nor ANA? Well, it must be one or the other! GE or RR?

Maybe they pulled ZA001 out of the museum in Nagoya?

Seriously, I am guessing it is an ANA frame since JAL already has a 2020-themed 787 doing domestic runs.

ZA001 is safe there in her home at NGO.

Flight of Dreams is such a beautiful exhibition with an immense success.

The Red and White no airline name Tokyo Olympic plane will be a beauty!

So the last A380 wing left the factory... It feels like the end of a short era.
Such an incredible aircraft.

Major US carriers Delta, UA, AA could have made a hit with it if Airbus had better marketing and sales teams.

Your last sentence, if not in jest, shows an appalling lack of awareness of the airlines in the USA. Having gotten burned repeatedly for more than 30 years after deregulation by too much capacity, the last thing they were going to do was flood the market with seats with a VLA. If the market was still regulated, perhaps, but here in the real world no amount of sales or marketing would overcome reality.

For the uninformed foreigners among us, could you explain the link between regulation and VLAs? Was the prices set that high?

Oh my, that is beyond the scope of a message board. Let's just say that when deregulation happened, almost everyone acknowledged that service levels would go down, seat pitch would go down, and fares would go down. Eventually, the main airlines went bankrupt. They couldn't cover the cost of capital and Boeing fled to the ME3 to get sales. Cliffs note version, mho.

Bottom line is that no modern US airline manager wanted A380s. Too many seats depress yields.

  • 1 flight testing TLS (MSN 267)
  • 2 on the final assembly line in TLS (MSNs 268, 269)

As above, the last wings have left the factory in Wales.

I guess the next apparent milestone would be the last road convoy?

http://www.igg.fr/spip.php?rubrique8 shows convoys scheduled through late April.

There are pictures from the paint hall with JA383A all over the internet. Or take a good look at the NWD.
