Speaking of 773's, I saw a UA 773 on short final yesterday afternoon. Not sure if this was a 1-time sub or if it's on a schedule now?

We got few per day. Doing cargo mostly from EWR and FRA. Actually one of UA B77W is heading ORD from LAX as UA2792 and one from PVG as UA2809.

Saw today also EWR-ORD two UA B77W.
Looks like today we had a lot of flying KD fleet. 4 MD-11's and 2 B744's. One of them arrived as AJK4600 (4W) which seems weird to me. Flight was from AMS.

A couple more updates from International carriers at ORD:
Icelandair, between 29 March and 18 April, will operate a 757 X6/week.
Korean Air, effective March 29 through April 30 will be sending 77W X3/week.

Yes, but today we have March 31 and no Icelandair today, yesterday and day before yesterday,,, This is just talking, but reality is much diferrent... So far last FI flight was on March 17 as FI852 and then all flights cancelled.
Korean operates as per article as of now.
Cape Air operates today to ORD on Tecnam P-2012 Traveller (N244CA). Hopefully airline will keep this type with connections to ORD.

Interesting, did not know that. Now I see that FR24 shows FI853 cancelled through the 2nd and up and running from the third onward. We'll have to wait and see...

Hopefully the Northern Lights a/c will pay us a visit again soon

I had a trip booked on FI and they effectively cancelled all US service except BOS. As things get worst, I’ll be surprised to see them spring back before we see a sign of things slowing down.
The most obvious proof for intelligent life in the universe is that they haven't tried to contact us.

IMO all those airlines that limited/cancelled flights will not restart until "stay-at-home" order will be suspended. It might be begining or mid-May.
I got flight booked to KRK on LO at end of June and hopefully it will happen. So far LO has solutions for all those who got flights booked by mid April.

Today, CDA Commissioner Jamie Rhee sent out a press release commending her team on the proactive closure of the ORD people mover.

From the release:

"As part of our effort to keep travelers safe at O'Hare we were the first agency in the world to close a public transit facility in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the face of immense criticism we made this decision over 18 months ago and today the prudence of that choice is apparent. Social distancing is key to stopping the disease spread and by removing a source of the close contact people experience when they travel is a positive step this agency has taken toward preventing transmission."

Some good things coming to ORD today. QR is sending A35K today instead of B77W and AirACT cargo is scheduled from SNN for TK (usually K4 is operating that flight).

Another rare visitor to O'Hare thanks to the current situation: a 772 of Delta, being used for freight presumably, a/c N864DA, is scheduled to depart this evening for FRA and return to O'Hare tomorrow at 2:10 pm, only to return again to FRA tomorrow evening.

Caught yesterday at 10C as DL9755 from LAX. Yesterday was busy day for spotters. We were hanging almost all day around the airport. Got MP, QR with A35K, and rare visitor AirACT cargo.
Also seems like 27R/9L and 28L/10R are temporary closed. Taxiway Whiskey is used for a a/c storage.

(edit) that was short-lived; they're back to 9R

Whole lot of something being transported between Frankfurt and O'Hare and Delta happy to help. Wonder which direction (or both?) this material is flowing. 3342 is on the move now, back to FRA. United, too is sending a 77W to Frankfurt for freight this evening.

Just to clarify that HL7721 is a 777-200ER or a just a 772, 77L is a 777-200LR or a 777-F. KE only operates the 77L in freighter version.

That's right. Was hanging a while around KE arrival time and was quiet there. Like not ORD :) Saw later RCH (USAF) C17 departure from 27L.

ELY023/12.4XEDE.TLV

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/ELY23

On its way to DTW first then on to Chicago for an arrival at 0530 Monday morning as a humanitarian flight back to TLV at 0830.

There's also talk of a VN flight towards the end of the month. (That one would really be unique to ORD)

Among other stats, in its April report OAG published its "Top 20 Airports by Capacity" (seats) through March. -see page 4:
https://www.oag.com/hubfs/free-reports/ ... i=85783161

Amazingly, O'Hare is still in positive territory for the last 12 months (a 1.5% increase). In March alone ORD experienced a 51.6% drop in seats.
Last month only Haneda (3,082,741 seats) and Atlanta (2,087,912 seats) had more capacity. O'Hare's March number came in at 2,003,216 seats.

Speaking of the Top 20 Airports by Capacity Chart, if anyone can tell me the system for ranking the airports here, I'd be curious to hear it.

All interesting stuff yeogeo! Will be interesting to see how each airport is affected by the pandemic! I'm not even sure the CDA has published December 2019's data yet!

Also interesting will be the busiest airports by operations race.
The numbers will, of course take a huge hit, but the amount of Cargo traffic we're seeing might set O'Hare apart?

Upon further checking ORD had about 15k more movements than ATL for 2019 and about 26k fewer passengers. Same as 2018.

Can anyone confirm if construction is continuing around the field with the state shut down? I haven’t seen anything about any completion dates sliding

OAG capacity for March is of little value. It’s planned operated capacity. It doesn’t take into account that airlines were cancelling 50%+ of their flights.

Yup, they are working. I can see some dump trucks enetering and leaving airside area. It seems that it slowed down a little, but still in progress. We are sitting sometimes on the west side usually at Cabo construction lot and they are running.

"The Transportation Department is set to distribute $10 billion in Cares Act grants to U.S. airports... This $10 billion in emergency resources will help fund the continued operations of our nation’s airports during this crisis and save workers’ jobs."

ATL will be the largest grant recipient at $338.5 million. LAX ($323.6 million), DFW ($299.2 million),ORD ($294.4 million) and DEN ($269 million) round out the top five.

It's a fast-moving target for sure. This month's figures, when they come out, will be... interesting.
Some jaw-dropping losses in capacity this March compared to March '19 :
IST -94%
HKG -90%
DXB -89.7%
FRA -88%
...
ORD -51.6%

"17 of the 20 airports will see capacity shrink by more than 50% this month and all of them report at least a 30% reduction in capacity compared to April 2019."

Couple of things at O'Hare that have almost become commonplace compared to only a month ago:

(enlarge to note the stored aircraft under both aircraft)

I would love to see more of those... I was today about 3 hrs for some spotting and quiet there. Between 4 and 5 pm one a/c every 5 mins... There were periods that was over 10 mins between arrivals. I couldn't believe that it is O'Hare.
