All 737-700s, some A320s, and some 763ER's to retire in 2020.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the mods that had started on the 763ERs...assume those are most likely off the table permanently?

Probably too early to know but my guess is the A220 or A319 will take over much of the ATL-EYW flying... The 737-700ER are always packed on that route and the flights in and out of EYW always command top dollar.

I believe there was a comment on the earnings call stating that DL will not continue refurbishing the 763s now. Regarding the one that was already completed, I wonder if they would retire it and reuse the seat towards an additional 764 refurbishment? Although I have a faint memory that the Delta One seats in the 764s were different from the 763s or something, so maybe not...

The 763 mod was only supposed to add Premium Select while keeping the existing Delta One seats.

Got it. I wonder if DL will just keep the refurbished 763 around as a pleasant surprise upgrade for a few lucky passengers, or if they'll pull the Premium Select seats to use on another aircraft. I'd be a little surprised if DL dedicated that aircraft to just one route and actually tried to sell W fares on it.

Besides ATL and QRO, were MD-88/MD-90 heavy checks done anywhere else over the decades? As relatively popular as the MD-90 was at SLC, I don't recall any Mad Dog heavy checks being done there (before the merger, Western Airlines was mainly a Boeing operator except the DC-10).

I thought some of the MD88 / MD90 heavy checks were done at vendors in SAT as some work done in MSP as well.

Looks like the first 763ER will be going in for mods and is flying over to CAN today (31 Dec) - Ship 188 (N188DN) will be headed SEA-ANC-CAN later this evening. Does anyone know if they will be getting the same mods as the 764s (i.e., D1 conversion and adding Premium Select?) If so, what will be the configuration?

The new config will be C26/Y+18/W21/Y151. And it's still there more than 6 months after arriving! Obviously there is no hurry to have the mods completed:

All heavy checks for the MD88/90 were outsourced since 2004 I believe. QRO was the primary location. No heavy checks were done at MSP since the NW merger. There could have been some C checks done at MSP. Those are a very light check for the Mad Dogs. Usually only a day or two visit.

SLC never did any heavy aircraft mtc in the DL system. It has always been a line mtc hangar since the Western merger.

Yep, I know. I just didn't get around to creating a 763 section...waiting for there to be a larger announcement re what's going to happen with that fleet before I do any tracking.

DL A320 N326US, a 1992 bird, was ferried to SBD just over a month ago after spending the early part of the pandemic stored at MCI.

Is N326US one of the ten A320s that have been/will be retired?

Sorry I've just a quick question if I may, but don't want to hijack this thread. Can someone pls explain to me the difference between 738, 73H and 73A? The 73A I know came from Gol and have the BSI cabin, but I've never really known the difference between 738 and 73H. TIA

This question was answered in the Delta Narrow Body Thread. N326US is indeed one of the ten DL A320s that are now retired. All ten are from the oldest of the two batches of DL A320.
N317US
N322US
N323US
N324US
N325US
N326US
N327NW
N328NW
N329NW
N330NW

N325US is at least one other A320 already at SBN, but others are still at the likes of BHM and MCI awaiting their final ferry flights. The seven DL A320s retired in 2017 were all ferried to SBN for part out.

One nice note is that the oldest bird (N309US, built in 1992) escaped the scrappers at least one more time when it recently returned to service.

That's SBD, not SBN....

Is there any time frame for completing the mods that started before COVID? They can't just leave partially disassembled aircraft at the contractor indefinitely.

All of the 764s sitting in CAN are completed, and they should start ferrying back soon. As for 188, (the refreshed 763) I'm not sure the status of that one.

I know it’s not the most reliable source, but is no longer lists the 737-700 in the current fleet. Have they officially been fully retired?

Yes they quietly went away with the last flights coming into Atlanta on Tuesday.

The frames that aren't stored are parked at the E South Deice pad in ATL. 6 planes total. They very well may have flown their last revenue flights.

What equipment does DL use to EYW?

I'm guessing that becomes an A220?

Wed 9/23 B73G ATL-BYH 3602 N302DQ (retirement/storage)
Wed 9/24 B73G ATL-MZJ 3603 N303DQ (retirement/storage)
Wed 9/24 B73G MSP-MZJ 3604 N304DQ (retirement/storage)
