Looking at BTS right now for the year up to Feb 2022, JetBlue was at 13.35% market share and Southwest was at 21.74%. Jetblue would have to make quite a bit of additions to overtake Southwest. I think it's a good idea that they would try to build up their presence in the area between NYC and Boston. I'm just not sure what else they are going to add.
The top markets out of hartford are Orlando, DC, Miami, Chicago, Tampa, Atlanta, Denver, LA, MSP, SF, Dallas, PBI, Detroit, CLT, MYR, RDU, RSW, LAS, PHX, Houston, Seattle, St louis and San Diego.
I think it's safe to say they won't try another airlines fortress hub or the ULLC magnet that is MYR. So the only other places I can see them adding is.
- more capacity to FLL/MCO/TPA/RSW/PBI (maybe more year round stuff for TPA/RSW)
- bring back DCA
- RDU
I guess they could also try MBJ or AUA. Not sure that will actually make them the largest.
There are a few additional WN focus cities such as DAL, HOU, OAK, PHX, and SAN that might be able to support nonstop service out of BDL on WN after demand for domestic air travel returns with the amount of demand that was there to California, Phoenix, and Texas from BDL prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. WN also has a significantly bigger presence than B6 does in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Francisco Bay Area, Phoenix, and San Diego markets to support nonstop service to additional destinations out of BDL on WN.
DL adding BDL-SLC nonstop service is also a possibility with SLC being one of the top destinations not currently served nonstop from BDL and with DL being able to offer connections to destinations further west through the SLC hub.
UA re-adding BDL-SFO nonstop service might also be a possibility with SFO being a major hub for UA and with the San Francisco Bay Area being one of the top markets not currently served nonstop from BDL.
