Could it be that they still have to maintain them since Etihad own most of this fleet?
Not sure if there are maintenance facilities in Teruel, but until they find a new owner they will have to be maintained

Believe Airbus stipulate that the landing gear have to do x amount of cycles every so often.
Hence the BA A380’s all rotating thru LHR.

CX aircraft at ASP are being parked not stored. Parked aircraft still undergo regular maintenance. Stored aircraft have fluids removed and get taped up.

The return to service work required is very different between the two methods.

That's why the thread says "...for onward storage..." It's not saying that the aircraft is staying at ASP!

There is no plan to store the aircraft. If you look above there are many references to EY aircraft being stored when they are parked also.

I don’t think the source knows the difference between stored and parked.

for the readers/participants consideration; Altavair & KKR are likely involved in the direction/fate of the Etihad A330 decision making. To refresh; Altavair and KKR agreed to acquire RR powered A330s from Etihad on the cusp of COVID. P2F was quoted as one of the objectives. Fortuitous timing for Etihad as less so for Altavair&KKR; objectives and aspirations have likely been upended, leading to uncertainty/timing of plans/movement. Certainly a few high priced trash cans have been kicked about.
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/ ... n-Aircraft
"The aircraft portfolio being acquired includes Etihad Airways’ owned fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs and Trent powered Airbus A330-300s and A330-200s. The transaction provides for the Boeing 777-300ERs to be leased back to Etihad upon purchase in early 2020, while the Airbus A330s will be delivered over the next 22 months and placed on lease with other international operators for either passenger operations or as converted freighters. "
puzzling over:
1) proper amortization of long-lived assets where costs and revenue are complex, in a technologically evolving environment.
2) the economics of gate real estate

I happened to catch Conviasa's A340-200 YV1004 on FlightRadar24 flying IKA-BEG-CCS on 7/20. Was that returning from a similar paint job in Tehran? I assume the BEG stop was to refuel?

Why don't you do it? No reason to get mad at others when you are capable of it, too. But, people usually post from Skyliner, so it depends on if that website captured it.

Just to add, that was quite a while ago that the aircraft were stored.

The AA 332/333s were sent to ROW either in March (all the 333s except 3) and April (all the 332s and 2 333s). The last 333, N274AY, went to ROW on May 5. So yes, months ago!

Some maintenance is driven by time not just cycles so they are having to return to London for time driven maintenance.

Scrapping of first ever A330, ex-KA B-HLJ has started in TPE.

Livery has been removed, engines, nose cone and other parts have been cannibalized.

Any idea why it wasn't sent to a museum? Being the first A330 ever built made it seem it could have avoided the scrappers. Then again the prototype 767 and 717 were also scrapped, as was the prototype A300 (although parts of its fuselage were preserved).

Honest to goodness? I cn see A340's being parked and even broken up But A330's? That I'm not so sure about even if they're only for Charter andmilitary service to fly military Logistics. All countries need to feed their Troops or haul Freight or mail and these airplanes could do it cheaply as they're going to the boneyard anyway. Even if they're used by more than one nations Military, or Civil agency/

I am a bit puzzled by the fate of this frame (5A-ONP). I thought it was destroyed during the attack of the Tripoli airport, but it seems it was ferried to Hamburg for repairs, but then it appears to have been stored there for about four years. That raises many questions: in what conditions was it ferried ? How come was it not fixed and returned to service faster ? Is there a major reason to keep it around in Hamburg for that long (which must not be cheap) ?

1472 has 'significant flight control problems', or 'insert joke here'... it has to be one of my favorite pics
https://www.planespotters.net/photo/733 ... s-a330-202
or... "I got my *ss shot off", "tower, we are experiencing some navigation issues"...

One might surmise economics and ownership issues being the initial road block but longer term this bird still had that 'new car smell'. If anyone has an update on its fate, sharing is appreciated.
puzzling over:
1) proper amortization of long-lived assets where costs and revenue are complex, in a technologically evolving environment.
2) the economics of gate real estate

Understood. You might have noticed that this is a comprehensive pre-covid A332 list. I undertook the study after persistent posts on the board praising/espousing the A332 and its variants. My comparatively ignorant perspective was that the A332 was inferior. One of the objectives of the study was to understand the dichotomy between the effectiveness of the A333 and the economic mis-understanding of the A332. The second was to check my own uneducated positions.
Key points that were uncovered:
-How a value proposition can change in an aircraft's production life-cycle. The A332 must have had the ability to serve unique purposes and derive premium economics in the beginning of its production life-cyle. The decay of its value-proposition appears to have declined at a comparatively faster pace. Purchases or failures to make order adjustments (A332-->A333) post financial crisis are, imo, events of professional incompetence. It also speaks to lack of understanding of amortization of costs of long lived assets within the industry and more importantly to us, on Anet.
-How versatile the A332 has become, especially with respect to second life utility.
-Now the A332 serves the industry as a short-term and/or peak solution.
-The A332MRTT may be the best and last MRTT largely using your (above)arguments. Its a great peace time tool that has the capacity to move significant troop/freight volume and be commonly serviced globally. The rub is a combat perspective; would you want to operate one of the largest plane/target(s) in the sky... loaded with jet fuel ...where air-superiority was in question or alternately surface-to-air weapon technology had significantly advanced?
Post-Covid you will likely observe the A332-243 (rr powered shrinks) go back to work, with the pratt powered birds, A332-223s, likely retiring out as organ donors. The Canadian government would be economically well served to negotiate aggressively priced A332-202's(GE) from Level (basically new*) and have Airbus apply the MRTT conversion to replace their aging A300s. The average age at retirement of the A332 is falling to an economically painful level. From a freighter perspective the A330 conversions are quoted to be 15,16m... for one million more (conversion cost) you could get an A333CF versus the shrink. DHL leads the charge capitalizing on this second life option. Egypt Air (launch customer) remains the only airline to convert the A332 to freighter. Covid is simply adding a 'land' prefix to the A332's utility -slide. Under-appreciated may be the A332s P2VIP utility. Low cycle frames are economical to acquire.
It should be noted that an optimistic dichotomy exists for the supported A333.

The caption says it is to be re reg as TC-ONY of Onur Air.

Yes, sorry my mistake! Your are right, but the problem is not solved yet. The caption does state "Onur Air TC-ONY", but it seems there are no evidence that the plane was actually delivered to Onur Air. Other sources on the web suggests, that it was taken up by Nordwind. Maybe someone has more information about the fate?

Any updates on the status of the A330 prototype (ex-KA) and how the scrapping is moving along?
