PBI is also getting a non-stop to LAX with Mint 321's. Daylight 8am departure eastbound, 5pm departure westbound.

I think PSP will be a success. This is anecdotal but I know plenty of people who have flown MIA/FLL-LAX and driven to PSP. Twice a week probably hits the sweet spot.

As for BZN, not sure, but good to see B6 really doubling-down on FLL-West Coast flying.

Significant that if I am not mistaken, PBI gets mint before MCO. FLL has been a smashing success with Mint. Reiterates that South Florida has more premium passengers than Orlando...we knew that already but some on ANet seem to disagree...

LAXMCO will never get Mint.

JetBlue is going all in. I’m surprised they don’t try Mint to Miami at this rate.

Not too surprising. I did see an EK 77W (A6-ECI) parked at FLL on 8/29/20. Had arrived the day before from DXB as EK2695, and returned that evening as EK2564. I suspect either cargo or repatriation.

Aw geez, not this again!

By the way the conversion of Homestead into a commercial airport was a major campaign issue in 2000 in local Dade politics. 20 years later, it's still on!

Big question is if this is a one-off or part of a larger plan at retaliation against AS, B6 and AA.

DL can build up MIA with LATAM feed and FLL with its long-term FF base to mess around with all three "enemy" carriers.

Or maybe this is just a return to a market (they've flown both MIA and FLL to LAX in the past) that is made feasible by available aircraft?

I’m fairly certain this is more of a case of relatively strong demand to beach destinations in Florida than it is about competitive retaliation.

MIA/TPA I'm surprised as there's not a lot of O&D on that route. AA is down to flying it 2x daily. I still think WN will ultimately base Caribbean and Central America flights out of MIA and that route would provide feed. My assumption based on an initial success of domestic operations.

There is a lot of O&D. Not right now obviously but it’s a large market. What AA is flying during a pandemic is not indicative.

Southwest announces its new routes from Miami:

Southwest Airlines has announced today that it will launch first-ever daily flights at Miami International Airport to four destinations on November 15: Baltimore/Washington; Chicago (Midway Airport); Houston (Hobby Airport); and Tampa.

The combined total of 12 daily round-trip flights will make Southwest one of the busiest passenger airlines currently operating at MIA.

Southwest’s flights to Baltimore four times daily and Tampa three times daily will significantly increase MIA’s existing service to those cities, while its four daily flights to Houston Hobby and daily flight to Chicago Midway will provide new service from MIA to those airports.

That may (or not) explain why I didn't see an EK 777 parked when I was out for a brief bit of spotting at FLL yesterday. (I was there to get a pic of the UA 772, which brought the NY Jets down from EWR on Saturday to be soundly defeated by the Dolphins yesterday)

When the new airport in Cuzco, Peru opens (2024 I think is the projections), I suspect someone will launch either FLL/MIA-CUZ. Part of the reason I don't think CUZ has much international service is due to how constrained the current airport is. I wouldn't shocked to see NK pull the trigger on FLL-CUZ when the new airport opens. FLL-CUZ is well within the A320neo's range.

Aeroflot came back this week. Are these cargo only flights or did they bump up the start date?

NK's success with secondary cities in Colombia from FLL probably means, yes this stab at a secondary Peruvian city will be a go at some point.

Per OAG thread UA extending FLL-LGA, FLL-BOS and PBI-LGA through March.

Interesting that these routes are being extended. They must be performing decently.

I thought the idea of p2p routes for UA out of South Florida was madness. Seems they maybe making them work!

More new Eastern routes:

Santa Cruz now bookable, starts 11 November.
Philadelphia launches 18 December.
Santo Domingo launches 17 December.

Also Eastern’s website has no schedules loaded but drop down menu indicates it will launch from Miami flights to GUA, MGA, PAP, CNF, BSB, CWB, LIM and BOS (as well as applied for EZE).

Will that MIA-PHL flight be bookable to the general public? That’s a very interesting route and I would love to try them on it.

Also of note, UA today inaugurated FLL-LGA/BOS service which I’d completely forgotten was even announced in the first place and another set of unusual routes that I wouldn’t have expected any time soon. Unusual on par with FLL-PSP and PBI-LAX!

PAP is going to be crowded with AA running widebodies, B6 increasing frequencies out of FLL, NK and the eventual return of AF.

This is a bit strange. I was looking at the FR24 app earlier today, and saw a Liat flight on final to FXE (Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport). As most of us know, it doesn't operate scheduled service. Even more strange is that the flight originated in Quebec (YQB). I didn't think that an ATR-42-600 had that kind of range. I googled Liat and found out they are in bankruptcy and may be liquidated or reorganized. Seems very strange, wonder if anyone here knows what's going on. This was the only flight for this plane (V2-LIE) in the last 90 days, which is all that my fr24 membership allows, maybe someone here has the premium, which allows for a year.

LI ferries planes to YQB for heavy maintenance. They fly ANU-FXE-YQB and the reverse on the way back, overnighting in FXE both ways. I think you have the registration wrong. There is no V2-LIE. There’s V2-LID and V2-LIF but no India Echo.

Southwest launched MIA yesterday. They’re using gates H11 and H15. To accommodate Southwest and Delta, H11 was converted to a narrowbody gate and H9 was converted to a widebody gate capable of handling a 767.

Swift Air also resumed HAV charters yesterday.

Qatar has extended Miami through the January schedule. It was originally only loaded through January 2nd, before resuming again at the end of March. I guess they are just loading schedules about one month in advance like many airlines.

El Al has also upped Miami to 5x a week starting March 15th; even pre-COVID never operated more than 3w (although was supposed to go 4w this winter).

I have heard WN has been very happy with MIA.

Two new routes coming soon, Nashville and Denver added in March.
