Was at FLL a few days ago and both the north and south observation areas - including parking - were completely open. And the north side ATC speaker was in operation.

Was at MIA the same day - and noticed "The Holes" may be gone forever, as a large construction project now completely surrounds it.

Sweet! Glad to know it reopened. I’ll be making a trip over there soon. Not too much to look at now though.

The photo holes have construction around them but it doesn't look like whatever it is will swallow them up... yet. It's possible to park a ways away and walk to them, but I don't know if anyone would be kicked out for doing so.

3 airlines are bringing 787 Dreamliners to MIA this week. AA brought one in on Monday for familiarization purposes. British Airways is operating a cargo-only MIA-LHR flight several times a week with a 787-8. Avianca has started operating cargo flights with their 787s this week as well.

LATAM is, interestingly enough, the only airline that hasn't substantially cut flights at MIA. The 777s aren't coming anymore but they've been replaced by 787 cargo only flights to MEX, GRU, and SCL, among other destinations. Some are leaving from the passenger terminal and others from the cargo ramp.

We used to get a decent amount. 787 operators that immediately come to mind are Air Europa, LATAM, LOT, Norwegian, Royal Air Maroc, TUI, and Virgin Atlantic. The Dreamliner will be a more common sight here now that AA is preparing to start operations with it.

I think it just has to do with the fleets of the airlines that fly here. The A330 was definitely the most popular aircraft for European and South American operators at MIA: Aer Lingus, Aeroflot, Aerolineas Argentinas, Alitalia, Avianca, Corsair, Eurowings, Finnair, Iberia, KLM, SAS, Swiss, TAP, and Virgin Atlantic all flew them. Of these, only Avianca and Virgin also had the 787 in their fleets, and Virgin alternated between the 787 and A330 depending on the time of year.

The only other European 787 operators that fly to MIA are Air France and British Airways, and in both cases demand warranted larger aircraft like the 777, 747, or A380.

The opposite was true with Aeromexico which typically only flew 2 737s a day on MIA-MEX before the pandemic started.

Smart move. Don’t think they serve any unique domestic destinations with them out of MIA and they’re certainly not needed for the Bahamas flying right now.

TAP Air Portual will return to Miami from June 2, 2020 with 3 weekly flights. Then from July 2, 2020, daily flight resumes. A330-900neo.

Frontier is quietly launching MIA-PBI service this Friday.

This is a triangular PHL-MIA-PBI-PHL routing likely due to CARES Act minimum service requirements but I'm amused that I could buy a plane ticket from Miami to West Palm Beach for less than it would cost to ride Brightline.

I didn't know that about Tri-Rail. Granted, I only see them (sometimes) when I go to the BJs in Fort Lauderdale, which is right next to the tracks.

Tri-Rail for all its clunkiness has been used by multiple people I know to connect from MIA to FLL or vise versa. For those who say we don't have good mass transit options down here...they are right, but this specific airport to airport thing is an exception. It's worked for some travelers assuming they have the time built in.

Tri Rail is actually pretty convenient just with a relatively limited schedule. Once you can plan around it makes MIA very accessible from both Broward and Palm Beach and also works pretty well for transfers between MIA and FLL as well.

Lufthansa resumed FRA-MIA service on Wednesday with an A340-300.

Other current European operators at MIA are AF with a 777-300ER on CDG-MIA, BA with a 787-9 on LHR-MIA, IB with an A330-300 on MAD-MIA, TP with an A330-900 on LIS-MIA, and VS with an A350-1000 on LHR-MIA.

The AA 787-8 (N817AN) that has been at MIA since April ferried to ORD on Friday and is back in service.

Resume? Isn’t KIN-MIA a new route for BW? Pre-pandemic they only operated POS-MIA. I don’t think BW/JM have operated KIN-MIA on a regular basis since 2009.

Resume? Isn’t KIN-MIA a new route for BW? Pre-pandemic they only operated POS-MIA. I don’t think BW/JM have operated KIN-MIA on a regular basis since 2009.

They operated it briefly within the last two years. I cannot remember exactly when offhand. It was dropped very quickly though. It lasted for about a month.

Honestly having flown BA many a time on MIA-LHR, I will miss the 747-400's. But do concede the IFE and other amenities just weren't good enough for this day and age.

Yep these are the first NYC (non CO-inherited)-South Florida flights on UA since the MIA gateway was shut. Seems very random and low yield but then again if one thing will fill planes regardless of fare and circumstance it is South Florida - New York. But UA is the last airline anyone would think of for these flights.

This UA South Florida thing is all about "punishment" for Jet Blue given they have brought their Mint product to EWR with non-stop to LAX and SFO. It will likely only last one season particularly once business travel starts getting stronger and UA wants to use their LGA slots for ORD where they have likely pulled them.

Makes sense. Apparently it's LGA-CLE slots that are being transferred for this but I am sure once COVID is finally done, they'll want to resume CLE or use these slots on more ORD flights or something business friendly. BOS-FLL is direct retaliation toward B6 it would appear.

During the Summer 2021 season, British Airways to send the 777-300ER and A350-1000 to Miami.



Nice for us spotters. Too bad they don't have the great new Club World J seats on the 77W, just their A350-1000.
