But then again, if a vaccine isn't found, this could be a really expensive move for them.

Probably won't need a vaccine as long as cases in Florida continue to stay down.

Winter break IND-Fort Myers capacity is still around half of what it normally is, since last year WN ran 4x daily (vs 1x daily this year) & DL/F9 were operating flights.

UA flights are just filling the void left by F9 & DL

AA still leases 7
WN 6
DL 5
UA/AC 4
NK, F9, G4, & AS 1

MidWest, they were the #1 airline I believe for IND. the airline that gave us ( IND ) transatlantic service.

I see AA coming back but no point to point with Delta. I like Delta. Fly Delta. Just hope they return to the point they were, obviously it was working and American wasn’t small in IND either.

Even if DL doesn't add it back, someone else will pick up the route. IND has proven the route to be very successful. Even with high fares. If CDG doesn't return, you will see something like LHR or FRA. Assuming of course that things recover and the EU travel ban has been lifted.
IND to RDU to OKC in 18 months. This is what my life has become.

TATL service will eventually come back to IND, but it won't be for a few years. 2022 is possible, but optimistic. If we look far ahead and make actual predictions, BA flying a 787 from LHR, or EI to DUB with a A321XLR (I'm pretty sure they can make that route).

BA to LHR on a 788 seems possible in a few years given AA has a large operation at IND and they've also already had past success flying into markets similar in size to IND with the 788.

"Beginning October 1, Delta will offer a daily nonstop flight from Indianapolis to Memphis, Tennessee – a route that hasn’t been served since 2015."

“We’ve been working for a while on a route to Memphis, and Delta had a close eye on the market trends and made it happen,” said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez."

"Memphis is a popular tourist city, rich with history, and it’s currently the home of FedEx’s largest hub, which gives this route an added benefit to the FedEx employees located in Indianapolis, Rodriguez said."

Nonstop SEA is back, only major cities missing are Boston & LA.

DL will probably need to be the one to restart both, AA is currently flying IND-PHX 2x daily (A319/A320) so they aren't going to want to overfly that. Plus DL is restarting LAX-TPA/MEM/RDU/e.t.c in October, so IND is probably among the next set of restarts.

The only reason the nonstop SFO flight exists is because of pharmaceuticals, especially Roche/Genentech.

Both companies are still doing business travel on the route.

Is IND a “larger” station for both Delta, and American Airlines for their own companies? Or pretty much average size. For their network. Obviously some are smaller, and larger just curious.

IND is an above average station for both AA & DL in terms of departures, in terms of destinations IND likely punches above its weight for both carriers as well (given both carriers serve all hubs + p2p routes from IND.)

Great visual aids, MidwestIndy! Delta having a Skyclub speaks for the value of the IND market. I was hoping AA would open an Admirals Club but any chance for that is now way in the future, sadly. USAirways had a huge club in the old terminal, I would have thought that would have occurred in the new one, but I guess rent was too high...

Wow, PIT has really shrunk for AA in terms of departures. Being a old US AIRWAYS hub I figured it would resemble like Delta in CVG? Obviously two different companies, just did not realize they shrunk ops that small. Thank - you sir.

Not when they have a hub on the other side of the state that is more important in terms of location within the network

IND has weird demand patterns, because of school schedules in Indiana lots of students are already back to school in late July/beginning of August.

So what ends up happening is August is a slow month, and the middle of October ends up being a really big time for leisure travel from IND due to lots of families taking advantage of Fall Break.

One day in October '18 had the second most travelers ever at IND, only surpassed by the day after the super bowl.

Still seems like WN is quite bullish on demand from IND, with IND larger than FLL, MCI, AUS, MSY, & SAT some days. Normally these stations are 2-3x larger than IND.

More flights added again this week, hard to keep track of the changes since they are happening on different days. This is for Florida:

To put this in perspective AA/DL are running IND-CLT/ATL only up to 6x a day.

At least on peak days, surprising how much capacity they are putting out there

Fall break for universities is gone I believe, I know Purdue cancelled Spring Break as well.

That will probably cut down FLL/CUN traffic for that week or so in March, hard to tell how much traffic is generated by college spring break relative to the overall market.

Welp it didn't take long, WN is backpedaling on its October cuts, now up to 24+ flights a day:

IND-ATL/RSW/TPA +1 daily flights
IND-DEN +1 Fri/Sat/Sun flights
IND-MCO/TPA +2 Fri/Sat/Sun flights
IND-BWI +2 Sat/Sun flights

IND-SFB/MCO will be up to 8 flights in October across F9/NK/WN/G4

WN is jumping up to 32 flights on Saturdays in October, looks like the changes are only in place for the weeks of fall break, but is an increase yoy:

WN is back up to a whopping 7 Saturday flights to MCO in October
WN IND-MCO +2 sat, +1 sun/thu
WN IND-LAS +1 sat/sun
WN IND-DAL +1 sat/sun
WN IND-PHX +1 fri/sat
WN IND-ATL +1 sat/sun

IND-Orlando will be up to 10 flights across F9/NK/WN/G4

WN must still be pulling in a solid amount of bookings, more increases again this week:

TPA-IND up to 7 flights on Saturdays, at least on October 10 that's there busiest route from TPA (more than TPA-BWI/MDW/BNA). I believe that is the most they have ever operated on that route.
DEN-IND up to 6 flights, I believe that is the most they have ever operated on that route as well.

Saturdays up to 36 flights, Sundays 34, Friday 28.

I'd be curious to see demand if there was still a spring break. Like would most students be playing it safe and not going off or would many be sick of the regulations and just wanna go party?
Instead of typing in "mods", consider using the report function.
Love how every "travel blogger" says they will never fly AA/Ethihad again and then says it again and again on subsequent flights.

If they aren’t playing it safe now and cases are spreading like wildfire on campuses, they definitely won’t be in March.

I remember earlier this year many college students still went on Spring Break trips despite the narrative around COVID being much worse. I remember Miami had to essentially force Spring Breakers not to come. I'd assume we would see a pretty robust market this year if there was still Spring Break....

Maybe this was mentioned but I was going thru the AC schedule just to see where they were at the moment. I noticed IND restart is pushed all the way back to May, most still have November.

Obviously probably all the other cities get pushed back more also but I just found it interesting. Any clue why that is?

"Earlier this year the Indy airport was recognized by Travel + Leisure Magazine as the best airport in the U.S. and the Airports Council International-North America as the top pick among midsized airports in North America as well. They did it back in late April/May, no idea why to be honest.

Re: Fall breaks and spring breaks for Indiana schools:
All the universities in the Indy area aren't having fall break and end at thanks giving. Butler and IUPUI have also canceled spring break along with IU and Purdue. UIndy has not canceled spring break yet, but I imagine they eventually will.

So I imagine there will be some Florida cuts for March down the road.

Thanks for the update, I'd imagine it would mostly be cuts to FLL/MIA/CUN, college students don't usually take Spring Break to TPA/MCO/RSW

DL November schedule is almost exactly the November schedule, 19 daily.

Only real changes happen from Nov 19 onward where ATL gains a frequency and SLC goes back daily. Still no BOS/LAX

AA should be updating early tomorrow morning

WN scheduling makes no sense sometimes, no ATL/FLL-CUN but they add IND-CUN? Add IND-CUN on Saturdays, but only fly IND-ATL/DEN/BWI on Saturdays?

Obviously they'll probably add more back, but still pretty annoying if you are trying to purchase tickets.

UA November schedule looks like only 10 daily, big difference is no IAD until Thanksgiving:

5 IND-ORD (A319/2xE170/E175/CR5)
2 IND-DEN (A319/CR7)
2 IND-EWR (CR5/E170)
1 IND-IAH (E175)

Thanksgiving schedule is not linear with ORD up to 6 flights, IAD back, EWR up to 3, all depending on the day.

WN has made some sizable updates:
-Bringing IND down to 11 departures during early December, with Saturdays being larger
-Big bumps to Florida, IND-RSW/MCO up to 5/6x during peak December.
-IND-AUS added back during Thanksgiving/Christmas time
