The article lays out the situation very well, why it’s being built on the north end of the concourse, and thankfully Kennedy has a wonderful quote about passengers first impressions being so important. I agree cleguy— relatively minor expenditure in the scheme of things and it’s not like a new terminal will be built tomorrow. Just hope that road paving is part of the work as well, maybe that hasn’t happened due to the utility work that needs to be done as part of the project.

Compared to the rest of the incentives the city/county/state have offered S-W, a little more air service should be a fairly trivial expense.

50% drop in movements but way worse drop in pax at the moment. Many ORD and EWR flights 737s going out with 20-25 people per the UA seat maps. One erj 145 on Tuesday to ewr shows 2 pax at the moment.

From what the article states, he last worked until Noon today. From what I know, the test takes at least 24 hours to get the results. So he felt ill enough to seek testing, got tested and still came to work? How irresponsible, if true.

^Perhaps the article changed? I just read it and it says, "The officer who tested positive for COVID-19 is a screening officer who last worked the 4 a.m. to noon shift Saturday, March 14 at the airport’s North Checkpoint, the TSA said in a statement."

United is parking around 40 737s in Cleveland for the foreseeable future. They’ll be coming in for the next couple of days. From what I understand they’ll squeeze many in around Concourse D and around the maintenance campus.

Yes fun2fly, it's sobering, airlines somehow get to the top of the list for financial assistance but there are many other businesses and public agencies in the same boat, I keep thinking about the airports. Parking lots on the Rapid Line are essentially empty, add RTA to the list of entities getting crushed right now.

Yes ncflyer I agree. Brother-in-law just had to lay off a bunch of folks making $14 per hour. We should all be in this together.

DL cut CLE- BDL and -RDU for the coronavirus? When did that happen? Other those the only two routes cut for Covid-19 other than BKL-LUK on Ultimate?

They are cut for most days in April (although there are a few days that still show availability). DL has been zeroing out booking inventory in the flights they intend to cut (if the cut has not been loaded in the schedules yet). They will show as "Sold Out" when you do a flight search. This prevents new bookings and gives the call centers some breathing room as by gradually phasing in schedule cuts they do not get deluged by a bunch of calls all at once.

i think midwestindy noticed it when he was running some checks. I think there will be a lot more cuts than that given they have now raised capacity reduction to 70%.

After 4/15, WN CLE-MKE only bookable on Sundays. Clearly due to Covid-19.

Just a few misc. items.

CLE enplanements are down to 5-6,000 per day (as are deplanements), or by more than half. They will probably continue to decline as the crisis continues and more and more places enact "Stay at Home" orders.

From the CLE Facebook page: "The CLE Brown Lot has closed. Any vehicles currently parked in the Brown Lot can now exit without charge. The Brown Lot Shuttle will stop operating at 10am on Saturday, March 21st. After the shuttle stops, Brown Lot customers can access the lot without charge using a CLE Taxi which are located on the south end of arrivals level near bag claim 11." I guess the parking shortage has taken care of itself temporarily.

So a little math 6,000 is an annualized rate of 2.2mm, not that it’ll stay like this all year. But it’s a huge financial hit regardless. CLE airport and many others could need financial help too, it’s not just the airlines…

So far there are 2 737s sitting at D, 4 near the Key Bank hangar (where sports charters normally load up), and between 3-5 in the maintenance area (I can't see inside the hangar obviously).

Last I heard, the number was less that 40 planes though. I would guess there will be around 10-20 sitting here when it's all set and done.

Who would have thought that being behind the curve on building a new terminal for CLE would turn into a blessing. Can you imagine trying to make $1 Billion dollar bond payments with 4 million passengers going thru the airport? Now if the Fed's come along with a major infrastructure package, maybe that will be the funding. Think of the debt payments Ohare and LGA have due - yikes.

Some non-coronavirus related news: United upgraded CLE-CHS from an E145 to an E175 and has extended Saturday flights from CLE-RSW (mainline 737-800) through the end of August.

If CLE can somehow limp through this with no major service reductions I’d say that’s a win.

Onsite airport parking now free. This surprises me a little bit, paying is automated so there is no social contact upon exit. What a revenue hit, not that many people are parking anyway. The remote privately owned are going to have to shut down, but not after emptying out existing parkers.

There's 16 737s. 1 A320, and 2 RJs parked on the south side of the airport. There's also a Frontier Airbus and maybe 4 or so RJs near the Express Jet hangar in the NE corner.

UA says they posted a new schedule yesterday showing 68% schedule reductions. No new reductions for CLE, as far as I can tell.
