Never thought of that^^
I'm going to be at AC HQ, I'll try to visit fleet planning and see if they bite at any bait I put out there.

Any pics of the new A330 interior yet? Had a look at google, but can't find anything.

There are a couple of pictures on Flyertalk of the work taking place on the 330 refurbishment. Looking good!

Thanks tofur! Looks like they're keeping the ancient bins / ceiling which is a shame as the current bins/ceiling and side panels look so much better, was hoping they'd include those in the re-fit.

Interesting to see the addition of shoulder belts in J, wonder why they're not including in AC's Super-Diamond seats in their 787s and 777s?

So you've got to wait for the first refit of an ex Singapore aircraft, they'll keep their enhanced cabin sidewall panels and overhead bins.

My pleasure, glad I found them.

The shoulder strap on these new seats replaces the inflatable lap belts found on the 777/787 fleet, and must be worn for taxi, take off and landing. Something new is the privacy dividers can be opened or closed in the centre seats which is nice for those travelling together. The dividers on the 777/787 are stationary and cannot be moved.

It also appears that overhead bins over the centre row of seats have been installed in J class. I seldom work on the 330, but I don't believe the original AC configuration had overhead bins over the centre core in J class.

Just like the C Series one was right before it happened. I clearly remember Calin even publishing a video tribute to the Embraer 190s right before.

There was talk of pushing the MAX-8s out with an order of 321XLR's, which would be delivered significantly earlier in conjunction with the proposed A350 order. The MAX was never wanted by AC, and it cant do the 40 min rapidair turns due to bulk loading. I'm just as excited as the next avgeek, but it's all speculation and rumor in the flight planning room until or if a press release comes out

Good observation, the old J config did not have centre bins, so I guess they've sourced some old style ones for the centre. Be nice to have them, flown in the old config and the bins filled quickly.

I wonder why Air Canada has to reduce the number of washrooms in economy? Not only is it unpleasant waiting for a washroom but the poor passengers sitting by the washroom door also probably don’t get a window either. I really like Air Canada but is four seats worth the discomfort caused to its passengers?

Still looks like 6 lavs in Y and Y+ but one less in J. Perhaps they expect J passengers to also use the Y+ ones like on the 787s.

On the Dreamliner one of the lavs at doors 2 is actually designated for j class (the lav on aircraft right). It's door is facing j and the curtain is closed such that it is closed to PY and open to J on the Right side aisle.

Any intel on why C-GKUH is stored at Marana? Seems odd to lease the aircraft, paint it, and then place it in storage.

Is it already configured with the new cabin. If yes, maybe they decided to store it until they officially launch this year, if not then it needs to be reconfigured. C-GFUR has returned from Singapore just a few days ago where there are still two other A333s for AC.

So how many of Air Canada 333s will have the new configuration by July-August (peak summer period)? All? If not, how many different configurations will they have?

Well due to the whole Coronavirus thing the need for additional widebody capacity in the fleet at the moment has probably also lessened....

It can be, however that aircraft is parked in the desert since last October.

Ah I misread, I thought you said it was stored after being reconfigured in SIN. AC probably didn’t need the plane for the winter season, and at this point probably doesn’t need it for Spring so waiting until reconfigured for Summer service.

When purchasing used aircraft you have to make compromises. The SQ lease has an end date. If SQ doesn’t want to temporarily extend the lease to better match when you want the plane to enter your fleet there is a risk the owner will just lease the plane to someone who wants it ASAP after the SQ return and not 6 months or whatever from then and you don’t have a plane at all when you want it.

All I know is that it's been stored since it flew SIN-HND-YVR-TUS-MZJ at the end of October.

Highly unlikely that AC would choose enhanced and classic cabin elements on the same aircraft. We have seen pics of the refurbed C cabin on 934 before, and they feature the classic cabin.
So what i would derive from that Premium Eco picture is, that this must be already one of the ex Singapore frames and refit number 2. So at least they are working on two parallel.

So then its probably time for an update. Also Skyliner reported a new addition to the registry.

New Config (32C/24W/241Y)
934 C-GFUR MSN 344 - still not back in service

In Refurbishment

942 C-GEGP MSN 1015 - in QPG for quite some time (as pictures suggest an enhanced cabin aircraft has been reconfigured, so probably this one awaiting STC approval??)
944 C-GKUG MSN 1149 - transferred from SIN to QPG for refurb on 2nd March

Old Config (27C/21W/244Y)
931 C-GFAF MSN 277 - active
932 C-GFAH MSN 279 - active
933 C-GFAJ MSN 284 - active
935 C-GHKR MSN 400 - active
936 C-GHKW MSN 408 - back in service after one month in Singapore (just a base maintenance event?)
937 C-GHKX MSN 412 - active
938 C-GHLM MSN 419 - active

ex Singapore Config (30W255Y) (Regional Business sold als Premium Eco internationally, as Domestic First on continental Routes)
939 C-GEFA MSN 997 - active
940 C-GEGC MSN 1006 - active
941 C-GEGI MSN 1012 - active
943 ?
945 C-GKUH MSN 1156 (stored in Marana)
946 ?
947 C-GOFW ex 9V-SSA MSN 1485 (Listed in Transport Canada registry)

I heard about the last possible two frames, but unless publicly confirmed by official sources, these are the possible candidates,
I removed the ex Hong Kong frames, because they started going into cargo mods and those still in SQ contracts beyond this year.

Possible SQ frames more or less available
9V-STC MSN 986 active with SQ
9V-STS MSN 1157 (apparently stored after 1 year with Transasia, wfu Oct2016)
9V-STW MSN 1447 (stored after being wfu Jul2019)
9V-SSC MSN 1544 active with SQ (6 year lease ends theoretically around JUL2020)
9V-SSD MSN 1562 active with SQ (6 year lease ends theoretically around SEP2020)
Flown on - 306,313,318,319,320,321,332,333,343,345,346,359,35K,388, 712,733,734,735,736,73G,738,744,748,752,753,763,77E,77L,77W, 788, 789, M11, M1F, M88, CR7,CR9, E35,E45,E75,E90,E95, AR1,AR8, DHT,DH1,DH4, and some more ;)

Now they just need a place to fly to. AC have drastically reduced international and cross-border flying and reduced domestic flying as well. As I recall it the A330s were acquired as swing capacity that could easily be shed in a downturn. So I wonder if they'll be parked. Or perhaps that fleet could handle most of AC's routes until this crisis is over!

I guess AC is in a comfortable situation with their fleet. They can easily retire a huge amount of old A320s and the 767 fleet. If needed they can even downsize the 767 fleet at Rouge and retire the older frames there. A330 fleet will stay and should they cut capacity further and further, its cheaper to operate 787 and 330s than 777 aircraft on weak demand routes.

AC definitely has to at least be relieved about their fleet planning in this situation. They have lots of old A320s and 763s they can send to the desert to reduce capacity, and the situation with the 7M8 has bizarrely worked out in their favour now, since they don't have to be paying for a bunch of new planes they can't fill.

C-GHKW was ferried to Ymx today for storage.

Along with a 77W and A320. Im assuming the start of the mass storage for most of Acs fleet. Also was able to see a A333 in new colors in the hangars at Yul but couldn't get the rego.

Does anyone know whereabouts AC is storing these planes at YMX?

Perhaps on a taxiway as TS did with their Tristars years ago, or DL with its MD-11s.

Thanks for the post!! Signature pods, new seats and IFE look great! Wish they had gone a bit further and updated the ancient bins, sidewall and ceilings, however. Those are exclusive to early-build 330's and scream 1990's.

Thanks! That cabin has the new bins, ceiling and sidewalls. Best way to tell is the curved handle on the bins.

They’ve done it before with the 767 - twice lol

Luckily the second half of the fleet will have the newer enhanced cabin. Looking forward to those!

The Layout 3 for the A333 looks great and much more sense than the in between config with PY. Side note, ACs fleet page is great.
