direct overlap are BGY - BCN - LCA - LTN -and MAD
Wizz Air serves CIA instead of FCO , CRL instead of BRU and EIN instead of AMS wich are the cheaper airports nearby and 22 other destinations from CLJ

Can Blue Air even win this fight? I mean Wizz Air will just dump capacity and fares while Blue does not have such large capital reserves.

Something tells me Wizz won't have a large capital reserve by next summer either.

Sure ?
The CEO of Wizz Air in May 2020 "said that his airline could survive for as long as two years without carrying a single passenger"
That`s a different statement.
https://simpleflying.com/wizz-air-24-months-single-passenger/

With Indigo Partners ( wich placed an order worth 49 billion $ ) in the background, Wizz Air is in another ballpark I believe.
But Blue Air is in a better position than Tarom. They managed a 15 million € profit last year , whereas Tarom is losing money since 2008 if I remember correctly

Sure. May was an awfully long time ago. Varadi said they have money for one and a half year then two years then three years. Which one is the truth then? Yet he fired 20% of his employees, why? Besides we are not talking about "not carrying a single passenger" but about financing a huge expansion where lots of flights are operated but mostly with very low passenger load/yield. They are dumping huge amount of tickets continouosly for chips, just check their commercials. It will eat up their cash reserve quite quickly. This is why lately they try to announce domestic flights wherever possible (in Norway and Italy) which imho is a desperate attempt to raise passenger loads despite the virus (trying to avoid travel bans and the unwillingness of the people to leave their own country). This winter won't be rosy for them despite the victory rhetoric.

Any idea where the slots for LHR coming from? Smart move, leaving the LTN "battlefield" to wizz - so will we see more routes to move?

I think Blue Air didnt pay anything for that slots, currently airports (even big ones) are trying to attract new airlines to fill the capacity left empty by airlines which cut capacity due to Covid-19.

BLA is moving OTP-BVA flights to CDG from 18DEC, 3x weekly.
BLA is moving OTP-FCO and BCM-FCO flights to CIA from 18DEC

Increasingly large changes in strategy from Blue Air is somewhat concerning. It suggests they are struggling to find or retain a niche in the market, with the associated long term implications

I think the move to LHR in S21 wont happen if use it or lose it rule for slots wont be waived in S21 too.

also, between 05DEC20 - 09JAN21 there is will be additional flight between OTP and LHR, from 5 to 6x weekly.

Either that or they believe RO has no future so they are trying to take over their role in Romania. I think they are also aware that they can't compete directly against Wizz Air and Ryanair so they have to find a market within which they can operate and be somewhat shielded from their attacks, LHR and CDG are definitely it.

I like their strategy of connecting main airports in Europe with local airports in Romania. Romanian diaspora is large and diversified. There are people who are willing to pay more for the convenience of using the main airport instead of driving or going by bus 50-60 km to Beauvais or something like that. Personally, I prefer to pay extra for the ticket from BRU than to fly with Wizz from CRL. With all extra costs and time lost, I consider it more economical even if the ticket itself might be more expensive. I imagine such passengers are - on average - more likely to pay for extra legroom or a sandwich...

Exactly, that's why I thought they are working on eventually replacing RO. Romania, especially Bucharest, does ok in terms of economy and wealth so there is a growing amount of people who no longer have to chase the cheapest fare out there. Air Serbia and LOT have reformed in a similar way and Blueair seems to be going down the same path. Let's see how it all plays out. Unfortunately I don't think RO has much of a future.

Unfortunately you are wrong... the state-owned companies wont disappear so quick because the politicians will keep them alive so will be able to offer well paid jobs to their supporters.

This NYE charter and the later one announced soon after my post are almost sold-out so Karpaten added one more, departure in 08JAN and return in 15JAN.

Also, their manager told us that they are planning to extend this charter in February 2020 too, also for Easter and in mid-Sept.

More than that, GullivAir will receive its 2nd A330 so Karpaten is planning another charter, from OTP to PUJ for March-April and W21/22 + other exotic destinations.

Malev and Cyprus Airways say hi. Then there is Adria which went through a really bad privatization process at the end of which it ended up going bankrupt. There is only so much Romanian politicians can do to prevent RO from eventually going bankrupt. What are RO's long-term plans? Before covid they tried to build some sort of network but a lot of those routes failed, they even suspended winter flights to LCA.

Also, last week Wizz started flying charters for Romanian football clubs. Until now it flew from CLJ to IAS and BRN for FC CFR Cluj (HA-LYV) and on Sunday will fly for FC U Craiova from CRA to ARW (HA-LSA).

What kind of schedule do they have out of Bucharest right now? I suppose a lot of their regional (Balkan) operations will be boosted from mid-December hence why those neos are coming.

HiSKy will launch ops base @ IAS and will fly to 5 routes (more info tomorrow)

IAS - DUB, IAS - FRA, IAS - STN. Starting date and freqs will only be available after the company will obtain its AOC in Romania (expected to happen by the end of November 2020).

Two new routes will be announced in the upcoming period.

So we now have December, still only 3 routes ex IAS uploaded and still no ticket sale, nor official launch date - but a new domain: https://hisky.aero/

No AOC yet, that's why they don't sell tickets yet. Re HiSky.aero - is already old for months

CLJ will be the very first WZZ base in Romania with a neo aircraft. From 17DEC wizz will base there 1x A321neo

OTP too, at least 3x A321neos from mid-Dec.

What kind of schedule do they have out of Bucharest right now? I suppose a lot of their regional (Balkan) operations will be boosted from mid-December hence why those neos are coming.

No idea TBH but probably they will increase the freqs as the VFR traffic will increase before and after the holidays.

So, now they have AOC in Romania and will decide if they'll start ops in late December or in January 2021.
