Has Delta won New York?

After some years or reading I thought I would actually try to get in the game and make a post.

I could be totally wrong about this but here is my reasoning...

First...I will define New York as the four airports managed by the Port Authority...JFK, LGA, EWR, and SWF.

Figures provided by the Port Authority are represented to be twelve month averages (if I am reading this right).

End of 2018

United. 32,734,720
Delta. 30,861,567

Difference 1,873,153

May 2019.

United. 32,789,678
Delta 31,709,087

Difference. 1,080,591

October 2019

United. 32,753,557
Delta 32,619,493

Difference 134,064

I am not a mathematician but if you can close that gap by that amount using twelve month averages I tend to believe that the recent months must have Delta on top. Maybe someone with better math skills can weigh in or, better yet, maybe someone has access to single month data.

It doesn't look to me that Delta is taking any market share from United and I am a little bit surprised that United isn't growing more as I always thought they had a lot of up gauging potential at EWR.

Anyway...this has been interesting to watch.

Quite a few airlines looking to launch or resume NYC within the next year! Tarom, PIA, Atlantic Airways, Biman Bangladesh & RwandAir. I believe both Tarom & RwandAir applied for both EWR & JFK. Timing of their flights available will determine which airport they chose. SQ also looking to expand in NYC via NRT along with China Eastern. What do you guys think will actually launch & to which airport? JFK just had an amazing week getting both Corsair & Azul along with JetBlue expanding. I'm curious how did Corsair get a 6pm arrival at JFK?? Interesting as Corsair shifted to JFK from EWR, French Bee arrival at EWR has been moved from 4:25pm to 10pm!!! Did they swap schedules with Turkish or is EWR just maxed out?

JFK-GYE actually started in December. Doesn't make sense to start primarily VFR flights after the busiest VFR season of the year. Hence why GUA is starting early June rather than September.

Also note that JFK-OAK is gone and JFK-HAV is down 1x weekly.

LGA airtrain has now in the political crosshair with AOC of all people coming out against it. One of the few times I actually agree with her that the proposed line by Cuomo is a disaster.

I wish they could extend the PATH to EWR soon. I'm right by PATH station and I can't get to EWR easily right now.

Yes the overpass that connects to concourse B will open when the new headhouse.is completed in July or Aug.

Seems the first part of the western concourse could open then too. The outside has most of the glass finished.

Your wright I just passed thru LGA two days ago and looks like there starting to put in jetways. on concourse A. The construction is moving along.

Level goes daily for part of June and Fall 6x for the summer
TAP adds an extra daily flight to LIS

DL could upgauge LGA-CLE, LGA-IND, LGA-MCI, and LGA-MKE nonstop flights to A220's since CLE, IND, MCI, and MKE are 4 of the top destinations that don't currently have DL mainline nonstop service out of LGA.

DL could also upgauge more LGA-CVG nonstop flights to mainline with DL having a FF base in both CVG and NYC to support increased mainline nonstop service on the LGA-CVG route.

There have also been some cuts made by competitors on NYC-CVG/CLE/IND/MCI/MKE, including F9 having discontinued LGA-CVG nonstop service, UA discontinuing LGA-CLE nonstop service in March, WN having dropped EWR-IND nonstop service last year, WN reducing MCI-LGA nonstop service to 1 daily nonstop in April, and WN discontinuing LGA-MKE nonstop service in April.

No those routes could easily be served via EWR and LGA which are both move Conviser for those going to Manhattan.

Why does a business person from Scranton care about tourists spots in the NYC area ?

I think it’s a possibility down the road but right now with all of Norwegian’s troubles it’s not happening. Not sure if the LF were exactly as high as you’re saying though. I believe I saw some 60s...

Nonstop service to NYC is AVP'S # 1 goal ... it must be for a reason

How about Harrisburg ?

JFK actually used to have a small commuter runway above 31R. It used to be in the northeast corner of the airport. Check out the following diagram:

https://www.flightsimbooks.com/learning/chart231.php

They ended up converting the runway to a taxiway. I don’t recall it ever being used all that much.

Airspace is more of an issue at JFK than anything; the airport is too close to LGA and that affects operations.

Does JFK need to build a 5,000 foot runway for smaller aircraft ?

Many communities need service to NYC, but can't get it do to the slot restrictions.

JFK actually used to have a small commute runway above 31R.

I recall 31 R ... The LA area has much more traffic with 5 commercial airports

Much more traffic? EWR/JFK/LGA/SWF cover and carry way more pax than LAX/SNA/LGB/ONT/BUR. Have you done your research?

Why does a business person from Scranton care about tourists spots in the NYC area ?

What business person is going to fly from Scranton to NYC? Seems like a waste of time to me nor do I know anyone who does it.

Nonstop service to NYC is AVP'S # 1 goal ... it must be for a reason

How about Harrisburg ?

In October 2018 united only had 780 customers.

780 people per month or about 9360 per year just won't do it for United. The demand is not there.

Demand for a 50 seat jet .. not likely ... this why I posted the question for a short runway for smaller aircraft

No space at EWR or JFK for a new runway. Allentown has a United Bus Service to EWR anyways

What does that mean?
Pilots are idiots, who at any given moment will attempt to kill themselves or others.

The NY state government has created an unsafe sanctuary state and the US government is retaliating and protecting its borders by banning New Yorkers from Global Entry
