I don't see how cx has any choice given the current weakness in demand. I think if this continues, other asian service will be reduced too.

Also, Air China has temporarily suspended Newark service. They're proposing cutting JFK to sub-daily for this crisis, tagging IAD onto it. I have to wonder if the B789 or B77W would be used, using the CA981 arrival and CA990 departure. Also, China Eastern has canceled MU297/8 since the nCoV outbreak began (MU587/8 still flies), while China Southern has suspended CZ699/600 and CZ8419/20 (the latter flies into ground zero) (CZ399/300 still operates). Hainan has suspended HU7915/6 and HU415/6.

As for JFK-YVR, that was already on tap for cancellation, and Air Canada plans to go double daily starting in June on YVR-EWR (this one is better-timed for TPAC arrivals from Asia, while the current one feeds the TPAC network and often continues on to Australia). Equipment for AC546/7 hasn't been announced, but it would make sense for this to be on the A321 or the MAX 8/9 (if that's flying again).

Wonder how many new gate slots will be available after the new terminal opens. Runway slots likely aren’t going to change, though.

Also, nonstop ICN or bust.
Airports I have been to:
DFW, EWR, IAH, JFK, LAS, LGA, MCO, MIA, NRT, ORD, PHL, PHX, SEA, SLC, YTZ, YYZ

They will also begin flying from East Hampton to Manhattan. Shore Air will be the carrier, DBa Cape Air.

EWR August 2020 intl loads, more will follow soon!

ADD- 82.7%

I’m actually quite surprised how well this route did in August. While it typically isn’t EWR’s best performer it certainly pulled itself together this month.

AMS- 94.2%

This route performed quite well. Should be interesting to see how it goes once AMS #2 comes online but I can certainly see why they added it.

ANU- 93.5%

Not much to say here since it is a Saturday only route. UA is definitely profitable here and wouldn’t be too surprised if we saw a Sunday or Wednesday frequency added.

ARN-
SAS- 84.0%
UA- 87.8%

Even though UA has a higher LF here SAS is definitely the preferred carrier carrying nearly double the pax. Would have thought it would have been a little higher though.

ATH-
EK- 90.0%
UA- 91.7%

With a 77W and 764 this route performed very well. No surprise that this route is going to the 78X next summer.

AUA- 94.9%

This route typically performs well year round and this summer was no exception.

BCN-
DY- 93.9%
UA- 93.7%

Can someone please explain to me why DY dropped this route? They clearly made a profit on it along with the rest of their EWR service. Hopefully LV or UA jump in to fill the lost capacity.

BDA- 89.3%

BDA performed pretty well in August, not much to say honestly.

BGI- 89.5%

B6 operated this route on a Saturday only basis last summer but I definitely think it could benefit from extra capacity.

BOM- 87.2%

August was a weird time for this route. AI was the sole operator of it as UA suspended ops. Due to the Pakistan issue. Wouldn’t be surprised if the loads actually look better in the future since everything has been resolved.

BON- 82.7%

This route didn’t operate much in August, only 6 flights total.

BRU- 92.2%

Now this is a route that could definitely be profitable for Brussels Airlines. UA can definitely fill the aircraft and the demand has only gone up after the incident.

It would be interesting to see UA start building up South America from EWR but I dint think too far fetched. For those European adds you mentioned I think once the XLR comes online we see a pretty large fraction of those amongst other cities. Furthermore for the foreign carriers I can definitely see QR and AZ, now the only problem for KLM and AF is DL. They pulled them out of EWR.

Could EWR's runway 29 be extended to accommodate larger aircraft? on any regular night at EWR there can be around 20 aircraft waiting to take off. Maybe dig 95 under the extended runway like in Malta?

I think the problem is less the runway than the airspace. It's amazing how you have three large airports so close to each other, especially LGA and JFK but even EWR. They all have to coordinate with each other and I don't think that leaves a lot of room for expansion in any airport - even if runway capacity and gate space were not at a premium.
I may be ugly. I may be an American. But don't call me an ugly American.

Welp, dead thread. Anyways, after the pandemic is over, how many of you think that UA will start JNB-EWR with some 787?

I think very possible considering SAA is collapsing.

Would anyone like me to make a spread sheet of airline service following the pandemic?

Yea, I'd love a chart of what has changed to JFK, LGA, EWR, DME, VKO, SVO, and LED. (The last 4 not related to the thread title.)

I’ll get started on that tomorrow. On a brighter note, when is everyone expecting for travel to recover?

Does DL still fly 717s to NYC airports? I haven't seen one in a while. If not, will they come back? I desperately have yet to fly on one in case they decide to get rid of them :/ but I'm waiting for conditions to get better.

They are still pushing ahead with the AirTran. I think the subway extension would be better.

I think they still do to JFK. JFK-MSP had a lot of 717s operating. Same with DTW and other hubs/minor places like RDU.

Air Serbia is boosting rotations to JFK in October, adding about 2600 more seats than usual. but 34 flights a month is a bit ambitious

With the new United route announcement EWR is getting one new flight.

UA will be using the 789 to fly daily EWR-JNB

I think they’re pretty much out of NYC. Major 717 flights were JFK-MSP, LGA-ORD, and the dinky once a day JFK-DTW. LGA-ORD is now A220s, JFK-MSP is a mix of A319/320/321 and JFK-DTW is all upgauged using a mix of A319/320s. Will be interesting to see if they’re placed back on HPN-ATL whenever that resumes.

It seems DL is resuming HPN on 01/01 from ATL and DTW according to their website; a mix of 717s and CRJ900s. Wish it had been restored for the holiday season...

I don't think schedule that far out is firm at this point. Seems unlikely to skip opening during holiday season just so that they can capture that "high yielding period" between the new year and March break.

Your hunch seems to be right. Website now showing HPN resumption pushed back to 03/01. Makes me wonder if they may drop it for good?
