LATAM 787-8 - retrofit?

Sun Jan 05, 2020 7:45 am

Hello,
with LATAM retrofitting the 777-300s, the 767-300s and the Airbus 350s, and receive new 787-900s and Airbus 350s with the new interiors already, will they also refit the existing 787-800s and 787-900s?

I flew the LA 787-800 between TLV and GRU in April 2019 and while their C-class seat is in a 2-2-2 configuration, instead of the now common 1-2-1, the space of the seat (width, padding) was fantastic, better than in any C-class seat I have experienced before. The "lack" of privacy was no issue and the legs/feet didn't have to go into the typical coffin box.
I hope this route becomes 5x weekly or daily soon.

Their 787-800s CC-BBA and CC-BBD have not been flying for a week now. Is that related to the 787 engine issues?

Thanks for any info!

Eventually the 787 and A350 will be retrofitted but right now the priority is to retrofit the old frames aka 777 and 767.
Currently there is only one 787 featuring the new cabin witch is the 787-9 they recently received from Boeing and besides the new cabin it is also the first LATAM Chile Dreamliner equipped with Cabin Crew Rest on the rear galley ... all other frames are only equipped with Flight Crew rest on the forward galley ...
Regarding the TLV route seems like it will soon be operated by LATAM Brazil and their A350-900 freeing up 787 for LATAM Chile witch is still suffering with issues related to the TRENT engines ....

For the 787-9. CC-BGP just recently delivered. Total 2 789 have the new Business Class.
If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!

Really? I thought that Brazilian crew are forbidden from operating legs that are longer than 14 hours, which is why the route was started as Scl-GRU-TLV in the first place operated by a Crew from LATAM Chile... (the GRU-TLV flights is 13:30 hours but TLV-GRU is scheduled at 15:15 hours)
Is this law being abolished? And if so, when will the Airbus 350 start operating for LATAM Brasil to TLV?

Brazilian website Passageiro de Primeira (proxy to TPG) analyzed this topic a few months ago (link below in Portuguese). It seems that the law allows flights up to 14h, and anything beyond that would depend on negotiations with crew union. Thus, not expressly forbidden but also not automatically possible.
