Tue Jan 07, 2020 12:10 pm

Looks like a Pegasus 737 has slid off the runway in Istanbul. Sitting in the mud adjacent to the runway. Sabiha Gokcen airport confirmed the runway is currently closed. Story includes some pics.

Aircraft involved TC-CCK B737-800NG, flight from Sharjah, UAE. 164 crew and pax all safe. Turkey has been experiencing torrential rain for past few days. This could be one of the reasons for runway excursion. Hope she can be fixed.

Probably similar to the last year's Lion Air 738 PK-LPS excursion in PNK. But this plane can be fixed. I hope this Pegasus plane can also be fixed.
If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!

Wow it's been a whole 2 days since the last 737 runway excursion. Once again, no injuries which is great news.

Crosswind can cause aircraft veered off runway if wet on the runway. Not easy to land on the runway.

Well, I'm no expert but that landing looked awfully fast and bumpy. Did I see a bounce and then a push forward on the stick?

She bounced! Glad everyone is ok.

Could the hard landing have anything to do with the excursion? Maybe an overcorrection caused the plane to slide?

bgm posted this below overview of TK landing /runway accidents. Pegasus also had a previous runway excursion.

All these incidents have several backgrounds and causes but one really wonders if there need to be a increased focus on safety at some turkish airlines.

Is it common practice for flight crew to be videotaping landings while they are holding short of the runway??? Shouldn't the crew be focused on their next step, which is taking off?

The Captain of the airplane has been arrested in Istanbul with the charges of "manslaughter and culpable injury to the detriment of several people".

Think that news is for the one that went off the end of the runway, reported already in this thread
