New Aer Lingus uniform

Wed Jan 15, 2020 11:05 am

EI has released its new uniform;

https://mediacentre.aerlingus.com/news/ ... m?ref=Home

Not a huge change, more a refresh. Nice enough, although female jackets are a bit weird with 3/4 length sleeves. Shame there isn’t a clearer way to identify managers/supervisors/pursers Insane to thank female staff are only now being given the choice of wearing pants, even QR has always had this option!

See what the new IB and BA ones are like, wouldn’t surprise me if they turned out similar with same manufacturer.

Why was it insane that pants were not allowed? It will be interesting to see what is thought about the pants in 6 months!?

I’m viewing it in an Australian context where female staff have been given the choice of wearing pants since the 80s. Outside of Asia I assumed this was now the norm.

Why would people change their mind on pants in 6months?

Personally, I’m pleasantly surprised. After the new livery a lot of people worried the uniform could go the same way and be a downgrade but this is a huge upgrade, particularly noticeable for those us who regularly fly Aer Lingus.

The navy dress provides a beautiful, modern silhouette which will no doubt prove popular with the younger crews while the short jacket and skirt option appears designed for those who may prefer something a little more classic.

A lot is being made of the trouser option but Aer Lingus is relaxing many of its rules around cabin crew appearance, make up will no longer be required, hairstyle rules will be relaxed and crews will be encourage to feel comfortable in how they present themselves.

The new scarf details and ‘brand collar’ add a little bit of flare.

The reveal in Dublin today featured real crew and staff of all shapes, sizes and ages and it looked great on all of them! Fair play to them for doing that, saw a friend or two and some regular faces from my own travels with Aer Lingus.

Its quite a bit change actually. The current one is kelly green for ladies, with guys having light grey trousers and royal blue jacket.
Huge upgrade for the guys in my opinon, and the previous ladies uniform was single option, now with 3 options a full crew of 8 will look varied but still 'uniform'.
EI havent had distinction for pursers/managers since 1996, only in the last 4 years have the mamagers been issued silver ties for guys and ssilver/green scarfs for the ladies. But even these were almost too subtle for non regulars to notice.

As far as I know, EI crew were offered a pants option a few years ago (maybe 7/8years ago?) but declined the offer apparently (according to a cabin manager acquaintance of mine)

Not much sex appeal in those uniforms. Boring. Give me VS instead.

Really? Couldn’t look more different if it tried. The only similarity is the fact there’s a bit of green!

I like it. The jacket for the women looks less bulky IMO. I fly out of Logan often and I'd see them walking through the C Terminal and it reminded me of the power suits women wore back in the 80's

It is 2020.
Sex plays no part in the uniforms or appearance of flight attendants in any way.

100% untrue.
They was discussion about a change in uniform but absolutely no "offer" made.

I like it on these models, but the ladies jacket doesn’t seem to flattering on larger women. With Ireland’s epidemic obesity that might be an issue.

Ugh they kept that horrible green! Honestly, I hope it is a better fit that the current one. I’ll be honest and say I absolutely HATED wearing that uniform when I flew for EI, so unflattering, and the color washed everyone out, and was always a terrible fit. For the guys is a huge upgrade, for the girls... not so much.

Just looking at WHO stats is enough to substantiate that comment.

I quite like them, except the all-green two piece dress. I might even get a green tie for myself.

They look great, especially the guys uniform. Sure, the female uniform could maybe have a sweeping green on the collar to shoulder like QF's, but looks good.

totally agree, the green on green is dreadful almost as bad as the current uniform, however all the other options are a significant improvement

I'm proud of their ability to smile... the ladies can't have been anything like warm in those outfits considering the temperature and breeze in Dublin yesterday!

Curious to know how it's going to turn out on board. I wonder if people can pick which version they prefer to wear.
I do enjoy a spot of flying, especially when it's not in economy!

The ladies will be issued with all 3 options and can wear as they want, or they can take just 2 options overall but with extra items.

Really like the suits on the men. Thank God they didn’t give them green jackets to wear. That said, I’m not sure about the skinny belts on the women’s pantsuits. Very 80’s. The uniforms also reinforce gender stereotypes by putting ties on men and dresses and heels on women. Might be good to create suits and other attire that anyone could wear.

Dresses are an option, as are pants because some women (GASP) still want to wear dresses over pants! Even in 2020.

Like the older one better IMO. Not really a fun of the black especially together with the green. The blue men's uniform and green women's uniform of today are much. nicer looking. The color combination just seems to clash with the black.
