British Airways performance at Islamabad

Sun Jan 19, 2020 3:15 pm

It's been more than 6 months since British Airways returned to Islamabad. Does anyone know how well the route is doing?

My HUNCH is that they are doing well. But, I have zero evidence to back that claim.

I think to get a better picture it would be best to give it a year or so. But if they're still flying 3 weekly then BA knows what its doing. Hopefully they increase their services. I remember when BA served back in the Day, there was a daily B747 and at one points even a double daily flights too!

Just anecdotal, but flew it Nov in C. Outbound C was 60-70% full from what I remember. Return was completely full.

I noticed they changed the flight time on BA260 to meet North America/Canada departure bank.

Performance on the LHR-ISB-LHR route are reaching between 90% - 95%

Just one mote; British Airways operated the Boeing 787-9 to ISB on the 16th Jan due to the 787-8 being tech.
BA261 181 PAX booked
BA 260 200 PAX +14 infants.
Even the 787-9 is doing well for this route..

Although BA have been operating the 787-8 to ISB, I have been told they will utilise either the 777-300ER or 787-9 to ISB and increasing flights to 5 weekly.

This is a very competitive market, it would also be interesting to know the proportion of P2P traffic vs connecting to US/Canada and if the ME3 lost any of their market share.
The success of the route probably depends on the premium paying loads, the ratio Premium/Economy on the 787-8 is optimum, if they want to increase capacity the next best option is probably 772. Not sure the 787-9 or 773 with First class is suited for this market

The flight is doing well - tomorrow night's BA260 is oversold! However, the 787-9 operating the route is just to cover for 787-8 availability, or lack thereof. It's not a sign that this route will see First, so that rules out the 787-9 operating the route on anything other than an ad-hoc basis. It certainly won't see the 77W. It's more likely to see the 3-class 772 when thry're refitted with the new Club suite than anything with a First cabin.

It may go up to 5x weekly, but there'd be tradeoffs with getting the slots from somewhere. So probably won't be happening anytime soon.

Due to this route being only 3x weekly - do BA crew overnight in ISB for several days or do they deadhead back on the return?

There is no real need for BA to expand capacity at ISB from a 214 seater B788 to a 216 seater B789 which has 27 less Y class seats but 7 more J class seats. The F class cabin of the B789, I am not considering because there is no F class demand to/from ISB any more (unlike India which still has quite a bit)

The B77W isnt really required at ISB as it will be hard to fill 56J class consistently and not to mention 44W too!

BA is better off expanding to 5 weekly B788 iso using B789 / B77W !

Can we get any data from any UK website regarding traffic on this flight? Maybe from LHR website?

There's no deadheading, they're longer slips.

Only reliable place would be the UK CAA, but you'd likely have to pay for that information and it may include PIA data, so might not be BA specific.
