Fri Jan 31, 2020 9:11 pm

As per Simple Flying, Avianca announced new Bogota - Toronto flights. Have not seen this announced anywhere else

Let's see if it ever materializes

AV already flies SAL-YYZ, adding new BOG-YYZ flights does give it more appealing capacity between South America and Canada.

According to them, it's awaiting government approval. I'd have to guess it'll be A319 or A320neo metal.

This is being discussed in another thread. If we keep making a thread about every little announcement none of the latino threads will get over 10 replies on this forum. Just saying.

It's announced, but not selling. How do we know if this will materialize? AV had previously also announced YUL, yet they are not flying.

Given the altitude in BOG, I doubt a 319/320neo would be able to carry much more than 100 pax on some days northbound.

YUL was shelved most probably because AC Rouge is starting it instead

What do you mean? AV sends around 150 pax northbound From BOG to JFK, which is "near" YYZ.

Last year AV was flying BOG-ORD with a 319ceo with a full passenger load. That route is 1 nm difference than BOG-YYZ.

Im not questioning the capacity of the A319. It has more than enough distance to do the route. What im trying to say is that the A320, specially the A32N can do BOG-YYZ with more than 140 pax. Unlike the other poster that said that they wouldnt be able to seat more than 100 pax because Bog altittude.

The A319 is known to have the best takeoff performance of the 320 family. I was asking about the 320neo, which not only has a poorer performance compared to the 319neo due to thrust/weight ratio, but also the GTF(Leap & PW1000) is not as strong as the CFM56 in hot 'n high.

Ah okay, i see what you mean now. But bribes aside, why would AV use the NEOs on BOG if they dont have the thrust capacity ?

Edit: Also, if the NEO is supposed to be the upgrade option, then them having weaker engines than the CFM makes that point moot?

Depends of the kind of missions the narrowbodies are deployed on. I suppose they're mainly on shorter legs, but fill in on MCO, MIA, and some other N-A missions, although not optimal.

I was trying to add additional evidence to your claim to further support it. :-)

AV flies BOG-EZE on A320NEO (sometimes even with a winglet equipped CEO) regularly (one of the two daily rotations from BOG). Don't know how much the NEO is restricted on the route, but they have never even scheduled regular A319s since the flight started around a year ago. BOG-EZE is 198 NM longer than BOG-YYZ.

BOG-GIG and BOG-GRU which are in the vincity of BOG-YYZ distance-wise, are also regularly flown on A320s (CEOs and NEOs), by both AV and JJ. Jetsmart (WJ) is flying BOG-SCL on 180 seat A320NEOs, which is less than 100 NM shorter than BOG-YYZ.

If it was my guess the A320 NEO is not as restricted from BOG as people in this forum are assuming.
