This seems highly unusual? One because I believe you're normally suppose to be tried while NOT under arrest? And two because no official report has come out as to what truly caused the crash so why is the government charging the captain with anything NOW? Is he gonna stay under arrest until the report comes out, which can take months?

Is he Turkish? Wasn't one of them Korean? Also why is he the only one to be blamed here, after all he got clearance from the ATC to land. One could also argue that due to rapid growth Pegasus did not provide them enough training - after all, runway excursions seem to have become a norm in Turkey these days.

The captain is Turkish and the FO is Dutch from Indonesian descent. The captain is blamed and arrested for breaking 6 seconds too late and not initiating a go around.

TK879 flight from Tehran to Istanbul has diverted to Ankara diverted due to some passengers being possible infected by the Corona virus. 17 passengers seem to have high fever. All of the passengers are transferred to a hospital for a 14 day quarantaine.

They were already wearing them before most of the flights were cancelled.
As of today, TK flies to Beijing 4 x W and Tehran 2 x D. All other Chinese and Iranian destinations are suspended AFAIK.

Yes that's right. Also to note, flights between Turkey and Iran are "only" suspended from one side which allows TK to fly empty to Tehran and fly back Turkish citizen back to Turkey and vice versa with Iranian Airlines.

Unfortunately the TK879 A333 flight back from IKA to IST today diverted to ESB because of a medical emergency and now all pax and crew have to go into quarantine for 14 days in Ankara... let's hope the best for Turkey, the situation really escalated quickly... (edit: already mentioned, sry)

Besides this, all land borders between Turkey and Iran have also been closed because many Iranian citizen startet to enter Turkey because of fear of Corona Virus in their homeland

---------------------

Also interesting that nobody in this Thread mentioned the bring back operations of Turkey from Wuhan. An A400M was chartered to bring back about 50 Turkish, Azerbaijan, Albanian and Georgian citizen more than two weaks ago. All pax and crew have then been in quarantine but all were tested negative on Corona Virus and lastly could go to their homes after 14 days :D

My impression is that at least since the turn of the century TK had an opportunistic culture. That propelled TK to numerous new markets, that same thing now constitutes a risk.

New J seats?!

So, what is happening with the J seat that they currently have on the B789?

It seems the seat was decided on without receiving customer feedback. Either poor management, or bribery?

There was a rumor couple months ago that TK will put new J seats in its future 789/359 fleets due to customer complaints. But I haven't seen anything to confirm it. Since then 3 x 789s delivered to TK and AFAIK, nothing is changed.
I have few issues with them; small leg space when in bed position, seat shell blocking the window views, not being able to move the tray table and get out of the seat during meals.
There are so many seats with less restrictions, they should have done their homework better at TK.

There we go. Even if not cancelled, ICN is being reduced from 11x weekly to 1x daily flight.

Wonder where the A350 scheduled for ICN on the 2nd flight will go

Aah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.

This is the same seat that SQ uses on the Regional A359 and B78X, correct? I wonder what feedback they are getting...

Surely not the best start of the year for Turkish aviation!
TK A321 (TC-JSH) coming from FRA lost both nose landing gear wheels upon landing in IST and got stuck on the runway. Luckily no one was hurt.

And after the collapse of atlasglobal, Thomas Cook, Monarch etc. are there plans of Turkish Airlines like Pegasus, OnurAir, SunEx, corendon, freebird or even tailwind to enlarge their fleets. We‘ve known for years SunEx and Corendon do this and are also planing for this summer.

There will be up to 20 738's that are planned for MAX gap. Already 13 second hand 738's are seen already.

Correct, there was a discusion about 15 ex Ryanair and 6 Norwegian in the past.
The 6 ex Norwegian are almost delivered or will be in the next few days.
I‘ve got „only“ 11 second hand 738 (included TC–JZN ops for TK mainline) did you know anything about the other 2?

2 more is possibly from HNA next. Reports HNA is facing troubles further and the airline is on brink for bankruptcy just after China prepares to bailout Hainan Airlines parent company HNA. They have many planes stored after struggling to pay for these aircrafts and welcome buyers to buy some of their planes if they want. So I am just interested to see if TK will acquire some aircraft from this troubled Chinese company if they will. HNA operates largely 737-800s (including MAX 8), A330s and 787s.

Another TK incident:

http://avherald.com/h?article=4d3d9422

'A THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration TC-JSH performing flight TK-1598 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Istanbul (Turkey) with 146 passengers and 7 crew, landed on Istanbul's runway 16R at 12:26L (09:26Z) but dropped both nose wheels. The aircraft came to a stop on the runway on the stump of the nose gear strut and the main wheels. The aircraft was disabled. There were no injuries, the passengers disembarked via mobile stairs onto the runway and were bussed to the terminal.'
