$5 it's some sort of social media stunt to get views/likes/attention.

If he's wearing a gas mask I doubt anyone could understand any statement he was making.

In reading local news articles, the man did not have a filter on the mask, so it was basically useless. It was pure shock value for him.

Flew LAX-DFW with no mask, then put it on for DFW-IAH. Either it is a PR stunt, or the traveling world is finally admitting that Houston really is a polluted, dirty, city.

I do wonder when he put the mask on exactly. I would hope he put it on in the bridge. I can't imagine a gate agent let him board with that mask on.

I call this pure discrimination...Airlines allow hijabs on but not gas masks!

If I was legitimately concerned about virus transfer when traveling from Dallas to Houston, i would freaking drive. The drive is 3:30 to 4:00 potentially longer based on traffic. But I would guess that point to point, it may be a wash with security and transfers to/from the airport.

The gas mask was discourteous to fellow travelers, butt highly relevant in this day and age of modern air travel.

Yeah I let one go towards the end of a long JFK HND and the guy behind me went into a shocked and strangled coughing fit. I wonder if the Germans have one of those big compound words for being amused and shamed at the same time. Also, AA dropped the route soon thereafter. Coincidence?

The word you're looking for is Blitzkrieg. They tend to hold their own in the underarm department, what with deodorant being "unnatural" and all. After my last LH early morning flight full of businessmen my nostrils felt like Belgium in 1940!

Have to be careful. Some gas masks only flow air when a filter is fitted. No filter == no air == lights out pretty quick.

Is there any legal reason given why he was removed from the flight? Wearing a mask in itself may be legally hazy - some jurisdictions do not allow wearing a mask in public (it can even be a felony, I think). Or was the flight crew just doing everybody else in the airplane a favor?

I personally hope it was the latter. My opinion of the air crew and airline in general would skyrocket if they came on the PA: "Greetings everyone. It appears we have a screwball on the flight today. For the benefit of everyone else, we're going to toss him out and get going."

I do see a potential safety of flight issue. A gas mask could be used as part of a gas attack on passenger and crew.
