Bulgaria Air 737 at Sofia

Wed Feb 12, 2020 11:28 am

Landed in SOF on LH1706 a few days ago and couldn't help but notice a 737 (looked like a -300) in full Bulgaria Air livery. As far as I know, Bulgaria Air doesn't have 737s, and their subsidiary Bul Air have 9 of them, but none are painted in Bulgaria Air's livery. Anybody know what's the deal?

They had 737-300 previously. Could it be stored?

This is a very interesting threat I'd love to hear now about.

I am flying on Bulgaria Air on Friday and when I booked the flight a few weeks ago it was listed as a 737-300. Now it's an E190 and now all references to the Boeing 737 have been removed from their website.

The thing is that they HAD 737s, but they now gone. And the one I saw was wearing Bulgaria Air's newer livery, not the one in the photo that LH526 kindly provided above.

If you are flying them to/from Sofia, could you try to take a look at the 737 in question? It's at the end of Terminal 2...

B737-300 LZ-BOO in full Bulgaria Air colours is the aircraft. Engine transferred from retired LZ-BOT and waiting for several months some kind of certification.

Bulgaria Air Embraers were wet-leased by Air Italy on certain routes. You could have seen them because they were indeed Bulgaria Air planes, but with IG flight numbers.
So maybe now they have back their planes and do not need spare 737s anymore...

Correct. 2x E190 and 2x A320 were working for Air Italy. Now they are coming back and the 733s are removed from the schedule.

It took me a while to go through the fotos but I think I found what you were looking for. From what I could see she looked pretty intact:

Also saw another B737-300 with winglets stored together with a 4U A319

And D-AIPA, Lufthansa's first A320 which is now in Sofia for some testing
