Remember AA's partners JL will soon be flying to BLR and CX/KA already flies to BLR.

JL's flight from DFW is into HND, but their delayed launch to BLR is from NRT, and the the 2.5 hr transfer time this is a terrible connection from the D/FW area.

Sure, but AA is keeping one DFW-NRT in addition to their new DFW-HND. So you just fly AA DFW-NRT and connect on to JL NRT-BLR. You have about a three hour layover in NRT and you're good to go.

Yeah we have to see how AA does in this very challenging time. They have much bigger priorities now, sadly.

Long term though i can see AA making SEA work for long haul flights, they have AS to feed them. In the challenging times ahead, less risk to fly Asia out of SEA than DFW or ORD. AS has the feed for them. Additionally we will see how delta does with SEA. They need trans pac flights to feed their domestic flights. Even before this delta was burning money in SEA. Alot will be TBD.

DFW-BLR would make a lot more sense in terms of O&D, especially with DFW being an AA hub, but AA is committed to using a 787-900 on the BLR service.

787-900 Range: 7530 NM
DFW-BLR: 8031 NM
SEA-BLR: 7020 NM

Too bad AA don't have any 772-LRs in their fleet.

PHL, BOS, or JFK would make much more sense.

More sense than DFW, or more sense than SEA? If the former, I agree. If the latter, I'll just point out that AA's route planners undoubtedly looked at the feasibility of those East Coast gateways to BLR, and still ultimately decided on SEA instead.
This is my signature until I think of a better one.

Wonder how well AA's SEA-BLR do now that UA is launching SFO-BLR.
AA will definitely lose some of the BLR traffic it was hoping to capture from the Bay Area and SoCal.

I predict that AA will defer and then eventually cancel plans for SEA-BLR. AA simply cannot compete against UA's SFO powerhouse.

Yeah... I’m curious how this will all pan out. We’re only talking about the capacity of two Dreamliner. There could be adequate demand.

I imagine they will join with the commencement of the Summer 2021 schedule at the end of March. In the past the airlines have often joined at the beginning of the new six month season.
I do enjoy a spot of flying, especially when it's not in economy!

There are some nuances. AS doesn't give all the feed into SEA that UA carries into SFO, but anybody east of CHI/STL/DFW is going to find quicker routings going east, anyway. Then there's the matter of SEA-BLR being 600+ sm shorter than SFO-BLR, which is meaningful on ULH flight because they're burning less fuel to carry fuel.

IMHO the advantage still rests with UA -- I'll be surprised if AA even launches in 2021.
