Putting it all in your 401k/ Roth is a good idea, but be careful to not max out your 401k contributions before the end of the year. If you max out before the last paycheck you miss out in the company 401k match. Hate to miss out on the free money!

The pilots don't have a 401k match. They have a defined contribution (every $100 earned, company contributes $16 to their 401k).

Everyone followed the aircraft to run out and take a picture of their name. The maple leaf was made up of employee names and mine was right behind the left wing, about 10 rows below the windows. (Yes, I took pictures).

I have a recollection of the now defunct Canadian doing something similar. But in that situation employees were given markers and actually signed their names on the fuselage while climbing around scaffolding in a hanger (YVR?). I'm pretty sure it was a DC10. Not sure why it happened.

What??
What do you mean by”internal matters” and “staggering”?
What do you mean “what they just did”? Who is they? Delta? And give us a hint as to what it’s relayed to without giving specifics that’ll get anyone in trouble.

Unable to add more. ALPA has it as a big issue with the company for resolve and they asked not for anyone to comment.

Meaning the pilots get Delta’s contribution whether they contribute or not?
Is there a NQDC plan that the pilots are eligible to participate in?

Yes, no pilot contribution required. The pilots can receive the IRS max limit of $37.5k in company contributions, and if they hit the limit, the 16% company contribution continues to be paid out as additional cash income. On top of that, a pilot can still voluntarily contribute up to $19.5k ($26k >50yrs old). So, a max of $57k a year (or $63k over 50yrs) into the 401k is permissible.
*Note, this is nearly identical to retirement compensation at UA, AA, WN & AS , with UPS & FDX having a greater value with a mix of company contribution and a traditional pension.

That’s pretty generous by today’s standards.
How does this plan compare to the average rank and file Delta employee, e.g., someone in Finance at HQ?
Cactusjuba wrote:Delta pilots obviously collectively bargain. Outside of dispatch the other divisions do not. Either way, the comparison of generous is more relevant to the pilot profession and peers at competitors, not fellow employees with different skill-sets.

You are very pro-union. I am very anti-union. But even I have to admit that I feel like all this Profit-Sharing PR (there has been a TON of PR on this this year), and now the plane, and some other things - while great - certainly perked my "yeah, but what's this compensating for." I am not saying there is merit to what you are saying here, but I am also not discounting it either and would not surprise me if something else is coming down the line.

With neither names nor signatures on it, but still cool nonetheless.
