Qatar Airways ups its stake in IAG Airline Group

Wed Feb 19, 2020 4:18 pm

Qatar Airways has bought a $600 million stake in British Airways-owner IAG (ICAG.L) to increase its holding to 25.1%.

Qatar Airways ups holding in BA-owner IAG to 25.1% with new $600 million stake

On paper, Qatar has made a great investment in IAG seeing its previous investments more than double in value already.

Oh nice, guess the thread I made last night got deleted for not enough information besides the link.

Pretty interesting to see them continue to invest. Still waiting on that African airline they’re planning on investing in.

Does this really need its own thread? Just add it to the general QR discussion thread viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1440471&p=22030847

Yes. What's with this incessant need to merge everything into big messy megathreads?

When your parent is Qatar you got money to burn. Plus it's a very good investment in a quality airline group.

Maybe British will take some of those 787s that was pegged for Air Italy and expand the TATL footprint.

What type of influence does QR now have within the IAG group now that they have a 25% share in the group?

So what is the added value for QR to have a 25% stake in the IAG Group? Only transferring aircraft they don't want to use themselves or getting more favorable deals from aircraft manufacturers when they place a group order?

One would expect a 25% stake would grant you at least one seat on the board of a publicly trade company.

Do you know how IAG manages this so QR doesn't get represented in their board?

The company doesn't nominate a QR representative for election to the board. Easy. It's not proportional representation by ownership.

The Board of Directors of International Consolidated Airlines Group, S.A. (the
“Company” or “IAG”), with the support of the Nominations Committee, has issued this
report with a view to justifying the proposed re-election and appointment of directors of
the Company which is submitted to the Shareholders’ Meeting for approval under item
eight on the agenda.

AAB has stated that QR desires to invest in well managed airline companies. Remember, they also have stakes in CX and LATAM. They also tried to invest in AA but AA threw a fit!

BA did a few wet leases with QR a few years ago. As to influence, apparently none.
