BA’s 787-10 will operate LHR-ATL/SEA from August 1.

https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/ai ... f-26jun20/

I’m guessing DFW/BNA’s 78Xs have been cancelled?

Assuming it’s delivered tonight, will the aircraft operate familiarization flights? LHR-MAD like the A35K?

No, the A350 was a new type to BA, there’s a rather large existing fleet of B787-8 and -9 at BA.

Looks like BA192/193 DFW-LHR-DFW will be operated by B788 at least until late August.
I had seats booked on this route in late August on a 78X, but BA e-mailed me with new seat assignments due to equipment change to 788.

The BA B78X is flying to ATL, and is scheduled also for RUH and SEA. Is there a reason why BA wouldn't showcase its newest aircraft on its most premium route, arguably LHR-JFK?

With 6 hours left, already cruising at FL410.

I know it doesn’t have passengers and such, but good to see it be able to get up there so quickly.
Whatever

Nice video!

What pilots fly delivery flights? Boeing pilots or the airline’s pilots?

BA fly their oldest aircraft on LON > NYC routes , they've absolutely no need to impress anyone in the market

Does anyone have a full explanation of why the delivery was four months late? I know covid 19 will be a factor in extending the delay but the delivery was running late even before that became an issue.

It was in storage in Feb, parts of March, all of April. Issues with customer pending picking, supplier delays, Covid-19 for the most.

Alleged to be quality control issues with the finishing of the aircraft. Quite possibly related to already known issues associated with the Charleston plant.

British Airways has begun passenger service with the 787-10 today on BA193 LHR-DFW operated by G-ZBLB.

I checked last night, and as expected (assuming ExpertFlyer is right), the loads appeared to be terrible. Around 22 passengers were booked at the time.

Unfortunately, 20+ per flight is pretty much the new norm on transatlantic flights at this moment with travel ban.

Does flight length like DFW require crew bunks? I thought ATL would be the maximum length for BA B787-10. Oh well i guess it does not matter if there is only 20+ passengers... :banghead:

What's the justification for operating these flights? Cargo? Very, very few people are able to travel (nor should be travelling) with the travel ban.

Definitely cargo. For the past few months, BA has been operating daily cargo-only flights to DFW with 787s. They recently upgauged it to the 787-10 at the beginning of the month and now they’re doing passenger services with it.

Reread what I said. I was responding to his question of the justification for these flights, which is “definitely cargo”. As noted a few posts above, this is British Airways’ inaugural resumption to DFW, and the first passenger service with its 787-10.

Thanks for clarifying the amount of passengers on board though.

Is there any updated news of when the remainder of the 787-10s will be delivered? I know originally eight were due to come into the fleet this year, but then all this happened and obviously first one was five months late. Is there a revised timetable for how many more will come in during 2020? I assume financing was already in place for the entire twelve that are to be delivered?

Well BA/IAG seem to love their new -10. Especially its cargo capabilities in this time. Apparently They have been working together with Boeing to fully understand and maximise the aircrafts cargo capabilities. It apparently joins the league of the 300ER according to IAG cargo.

There’s a terrific video on YouTube from the 1990s that shows BA accepting a then-new 747-436 and being ceremoniously, and literally, handed the keys. The handover of an aircraft is quite a palaver, and involves airline crew doing what appear to be very thorough and detailed checks before sign off. The video is worth seeking out and watching.
I only turn left when boarding aircraft. Well, mostly. All right, sometimes. OH OKAY - rarely.
