Who will buy Air Italy aircraft?

Thu Feb 27, 2020 8:00 am

Air Italy is now the 2nd airline in Italy to go bust just after Ernest. With 3 MAX now grounded and 5 738 and 4 A330-200 now stored in Italy. Which airline will buy these planes (especially its MAX once grounded is over)?
If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!

I think all the aircraft but the 738s are owned by QR, so presumably they can take on the A330s themselves (given they already operate the type), or perhaps retire them considering their age... and as to the MAXes, can't really see what QR would do with them - perhaps lease them out to another airline? I'm sure they'd be able to sell them once the grounding is over if they don't want to take the leasing route.

Actually the MAX is owned by QR along with the A330. The 5 738 is actually the plane that is not belong to QR.

That's what he said. "all BUT the 738s are owned by QR" :D

You're both correct.

Planespotters.net shows the 332s leased from Castlelake, the MAXs from Pembroke, and the 738s from a variety of lessors. Is that info not correct?

Some belong to lessors, the remains belongs to QTR.

The few MAX frames delivered were sold to Standard Chartered on delivery and leased back. However, these are currently distressed assets on the Standard Chartered books. The 737 NG fleet was all leased. Air Italy leased or sub-leased its entire fleet.
