Uzbekistan Airways selling 2 757s and 2 767s

Sun Mar 01, 2020 7:57 pm

'Uzbekistan Airways wants to sell 2 Boeing 757-200s and 2 Boeing 767-300ERs. They will be replaced by more modern Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. Both of the 757s were built in 1999 and cost around 12 million USD each. The 767s were built in 2003 and 2004 cost 21,4 and 22,3 million USD respectively.' Since United was looking for 767s and in talks with Boeing about reopening the 767-passenger line, are they likely buyers for these ex Uzbekistan 767s?

I've been on one of their B757s and Christ, those things are beaten up. If the 763s are in a similar condition, I'm not sure there will be much of a passenger market for them, but cargo conversion should be an option.

Yes cargo conversion is a likely option but saying that there's no passenger market in them because of how beaten up inside they were? UA or whoever would most likely gut the interior and put their own in before putting it in service.

Link from the Uzbekistan Airways' website advertising the sale:

Today is the closing day for any interest in the aircraft!

12 million is a bit much for me. My budget is 3000$.

UA, perhaps - if they were interested in getting further 757-200s.

However the vast majority of airlines buying a second hand 20 year old aircraft do not have the budget for cabin or even seat refurbs.

I was on one of their 757s a few months ago and they used cassette tapes for the safety video.

Frankly, UA is probably interested in both their 757 and 767s. They acquired 3 former HA 763 and made them them into the 46J Polaris configuration just last year. Another 2 763ER would help round out that sub-fleet for sure. The ex-HA 763s they got were all from 2003 and so are the Uzbekistan frames.

UA also has net 2-3 757 down right now, 1 that got deformed during landing at EWR last year and 1-2 Legacy UA 757s (ex-PS frames) in for MX or retired. Per the news article, it says they're from 1999 so that would be perfect for them.

UA is probably already looking into this, unless the airplanes are so beat up that they can't fix make modifications properly. I'd say it's a higher likelihood for them to buy the 763s over the 757. If UA really needed to they could just find some PW 757s they stored in the desert and reactivate them. They probably are already looking into this since quite a few of the leftover ex-PS frames were delivered between 1989 and 1990 and will be hitting their cycle limits sooon (and who knows when they're getting their MAX fleet back in order.)

Just checked the "For Sale" site. Outside they look pretty clean for sure.

The only point of contention for UA may be that neither the of the 767s or 757 have been fitted with winglets.

Side note: just flew on their 787 in eco and it seems really nice and modern with nice IFE and great legroom

I don't know what the normal going rate is for a worn out 757, but considering Nepal couldn't even sell their 757 for 1/3 that price, it does seem a little steep. Perhaps Uzbekistan Airways doesn't sacrifice goats for the purposes of divine intervention maintenance though..

From my experience the 757s were worn out but the 767 I flew on from Frankfurt to Tashkent a couple of years ago was pretty good inside.

Was thinking the same man! I could do with my own 757 otherwise :-) :-) :-) Revving up those RB211s just for the screeching sound, I wouldn't even care to lift off, just fast taxis would be enough...

I’ve been on UK75703 three weeks ago, whilst the aircraft is perfectly serviceable, it would need a complete cabin refit. Also non of the HY 757’s have winglets.

Yes ex TW that AA parked DL bought most a few went to other carriers Delta was broke then. If they could in hindsight they would have bought all of them.

UA unlike DL has both PW and RR powered 75’s if they wanted more there were dozens of RR powered 75’s that carriers sold off. Hell American parked 757’s with 20k cycles and 40k hours. Plenty of life left. DL’s domestic 757’s have around 80k hours 40k cycles their ex TW have 25k cycles 70-80k hours. Fed ex bought almost 100 757’s anyone who has them is keeping them till the wings fall off
