Lufthansa Repatriation Flights

Tue Mar 17, 2020 7:55 am

Wondering on why Lufthansa is flying so many flights from Bridgetown back to Germany?
Looks like DLH2599 BGI-MUC, DLH2597 BGI-MUC, DLH347 BGI-FRA, DLH346 BGI-FRA are all flying back right now. Is this due to the new regulations from the US barring EU citizens from entering?
Thanks all!

May have something to do with cruise ships terminating in Bridgetown while all pax need to go back to Europe one way or antoher.

They are bringing cruise ship passengers back home. Some flights went to Punta Cana as well but that port is apparently closed now. Flights ferry to BGI and fly back home with a full load the next day. Quite popular among crews...

8000 passengers from Aida cruise ships.

Apparently 4 x B747 to FRA, 4 x A340 to MUC.

In addition to that 3 x A330 from EW to FRA and DUS and 3 x B763 from Condor to FRA.

Don't think BGI is able to handle the A380.

744 is high Eco, no F. There were also some A350s as they’re also non-F.

A380 has a large premium cabin (so does the 748).

Which is irrelevant when BGI can't handle the A380 and when you need to operate the aircraft that allows you to get into the airport.

Adams can indeed handle the Airbus 380 (as per link below). The reason they’re deploying 747s and A340s is more to do with fleet availability.

All LH 380s either are in or are prepping for short-term storage. Other fleets are in flight-ready state.

The one who ordered it ;)

The ones to the Caribbean were organised by the travel agencies, the one to Manila by the Foreign Office. Although as far as I know, they will foot the bill to the passengers (Foreign Office).

BGI runway is 11017 feet in length and there is quite sufficient ramp space to park the aircraft.

I've been thinking of the practicality of crewing these flights, since LH doesn't normally serve BGI let alone with 7 aircraft at once.
Did the crews operating the return sector with the cruise passengers dead-head on the same outward flight ?

The aircraft were sitting ~24h on the apron at BGI before return, so you can expect the same crew operated both sectors and had their legally required rest at Barbados.

By the looks of FR24 it’s going to be 1*B744 and 1*A343 to FRA and 2*A359 to MUC.
Late evening departure from CPT back to Germany on the 21st

I can't pick up if any of these aircraft has already arrived at CPT or on their way, is this still happening tonight?

The normal scheduled MUC A346 and FRA A343 did arrive this morning.

For A380 ops, there a few more things required (taxiways, runway thickness, pushback tug etc.).

On a slightly OT note, Swiss carrier Edelweiss will have repatriation flights to Colombia and Peru next week (24/25 March) for stranded Swiss tourists. Presumably to be operated by A343.
Kind regards, Florens

German evacuation flights from Mexico

Mon Mar 23, 2020 9:04 pm

The German ministry of foreign affairs and the German embassy in Mexico have just announced that the repatriation effort for Germans stuck in Mexico has officially begun.
Everyone who signed up online will be contacted in the following days about their flight information. Flights will be departing from CUN and MEX.
As far as I've read there's several thousand passengers so we will likely see many flights going between Germany and Mexico during the coming days.

From http://www.prensa.com - in Spanish
LH flew today B747 to PTY to transport a few Panamanians from Europe and repatriate hundreds of Europeans awaiting to leave Panama.
PTY airport is only open to cargo and humanitarian passenger flights.

There's one repatriation flight from BOG scheduled to date. It will be on March 30, and it is indeed operated by Lufthansa (Condor, Eurowings, and the German Air Force also operate repatriation flights). I don't think you can get a seat on the flight to BOG though.

Correct, they loaded some new flights on their website including BOG,WDH,ASU and EZE.
