Mueller Airport Control Tower

Fri Mar 20, 2020 1:39 am

Here is an article that talks about the control tower at Mueller Airport in Austin, Texas and describes the design and the view from the top floor. Development has taken place around the tower, but plans for the tower itself have not come to fruition. I feel that it should be used as a sightseeing tower so that the public can go up and enjoy the view of the skyline and surrounding area. Also, the tower is a designated landmark and tourism would benefit the operation of the tower.

It's nice to go down to Mueller and still see some of the repurposed remnants. I'm sure eventually it will eventually be renovated and repaired like some of the old hangars off Airport BLVD.

Wow, that brings back memories, used to work at Mueller. Oh the stories. I hope Austin does right by the tower.

A tourist tower to look out over the skyline and surrounding area combined with an aviation museum would be a good idea for the Mueller Airport control tower.

Perhaps someone can rewrite the lyrics to the song, sung by Frank Sinatra, "There Used to Be a Ballpark," and change it to "There Used to Be an Airport."

EDIT: And, do the same for Stapleton, among others.
