AIR NEW ZEALAND TO GROUND B777 UNTIL 2021
APRIL 23, 2020

Channel 3 Newshub is reporting that Air New Zealand expects to keep their entire Boeing 777 fleet grounded until April 2021.

According to documents acquired by the broadcaster, Air New Zealand has opted to lay-off their entire Boeing 777 workforce; as well as making large cuts to employees working onboard the 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Air New Zealand has told employees that the return of travel demand will be slow, the Boeing 777’s operation cannot be justified until at least April 2021.

The World Health Organization and the World Food Programme set up a supply chain task force to coordinate and scale up the procurement and distribution of medical equipment. The task force is setting up operations at airports in eight countries, and will be backed up by two dozen aircraft, including eight 747s. LGG will be the European hub of the task force as AirBridge Cargo donated the use of a new 12,000 sq meters warehouse it was scheduled to move into in July.

Call for consistent health screening requirements from Heathrow's CEO:

“The crisis came on so rapidly that each country set its own health screening standards, with little coordination. Rightly or wrongly, those that require temperature checks, are perceived as being safer than others, such as the UK.

”As we come out of this crisis, each country will be cautious about reopening their borders to avoid the risk of reinfection. Until there is a cure or a vaccination, it is likely that travel between countries will only happen if each considers the other to be low risk, and to have similar high standards. So the aviation industry needs a common biosecurity standard for air travel, just as there is for airport security,” he says.

He argues the UK, as an island nation, needs to be at the forefront of these efforts. ”Unless we can make it safe for people to visit Britain, the UK economy will be held back. Let’s work together with the international aviation sector and governments to define and agree a common biosecurity standard.”

Boeing, having made a core operating loss of $1.7bn during the first three months of the year, plans to axe 16,000 jobs – one in 10 of its global workforce – in a drastic round of cost cutting in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the grounding of its 737 Max plane. MASKargo A380 in cargo-only flight ‘first’

MASKargo has operated an A380 aircraft on a cargo-only flight – moving e-commerce goods from Kuala Lumpur International (KLIA) to Heathrow.

The airline said that — as far as it is aware — this is the first time an A380 has been used on a cargo-only basis.

MASKargo said that flight MH04 departed KLIA at 9.50am on Tuesday with 26 tonnes of cargo made up of mostly e-commerce goods originating from Guangzhou.

FedEx has at least 6 deaths of staff at EWR from Corvid-19. 100's in company have/had been infected.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat ... 071150001/
A lack of being provided with (unobtainable) PPE, considered essential workers, workers fearful of being fired and no income or benefits, are contributing factors in the losses of life and infection at FedEx. Likely similar problems exist at UPS and other air fright companies and for sure the infections, hospitalizations and death of workers is going to impact on their ability to provide services at expected levels.
