You see the bottom pic and it looks like it is owned by Cargojet. I think they're Canadian as well. The paintjob is strange but not bad looking at all. At least Drake didn't paint his face on it.

if you don’t like drake, that’s fine. but he’s been consistently atop the music charts for more than a decade now. he’s anything but “over rated.”

the livery indicates that it may have been designed by virgil abloh (a director at louis vuitton) who frequently collabs with hip hop artists. he’s the creator of the popular “off-white” brand. the sky blue with clouds is clearly a nod to drake’s “nothing was the same” album.

Eh. People need some escapism right now. Besides, having this jet painted supports the workers that did it too.

This is interesting, thank you ! It always struck as weird that Cargojet would have a passenger 767 lying around to gift to a superstar.

I remember seeing this bird flying over Toronto during the Raptors Championship parade. Quite the sight.

The world started falling apart end of January-early February, basically 2 months ago. Do you really think it took Drake and his team less than 2 months to pull and execute the design? This was planned months ago, way before COVID-19 was a thing.

Also, just do a little research and you'll find that Drake does support a lot of charities.

I don't really understand why an individual, albeit with a posse, needs so much lift. The amount of resources required and carbon pumped out for a handful of people to fly is off the charts. The words "inflated ego" and "greed" come to my mind at least. Why not a Global express or some other exec craft?

I doubt that Elan Express owns any aircraft? Elan probably owns the Part 125 Operating Certificate, thus the N registration. Elan Express originally provided these services for Vulcan Flight Operations (KBFI/757) and I believe the Denver Rockies (727-200) and briefly for Blue City Holdings (B767-200ER). I use to know the individual that owned this certificate but he may have since sold it.

I don't believe this aircraft has ever seen airline service. In addition I'm pretty sure it has been, or was tanked thus giving it 22 hours range. Not sure why this would be refered to as a "cargo jet" as I don't see a cargo door?

Cargojet is the airline that owns the frame. They are a Canadian cargo and charter airline.

Operating N registered airplane, presumably on an FAA Part 125 cert. Must be a good story here.

The CEO and president of Cargojet is Ajay Virmani, and judging by his instagram he likes to be seen with famous people, from Drake to the Toronto Raptors. I guess that explains the Cargojet connection as I'm pretty sure they don't offer any other VIP transport services

Here's some interesting info about Drake's jet. It seems that it was in VIP configuration from its original delivery back in 1996:

And just for fun, here's Cargojet's fleet:

Assume Drake is a popular entertainer of some sort, not familiar with him (assume it's a 'him'). If I were handling his finances I'd tell him to ditch the private jet altogether and 'batten down the hatches' for a long period of little $$ coming in. As far as the scheme, surprised no one has brought up the 1980's Northeastern International 'Clouds' scheme. They had two 727s painted in the scheme, one pink and one blue. Maybe someone could post an image?

Exactly. Or even the Orange One with his 757.... but shhhh....we all know what this furor is fundamentally about ... :coffee: :coffee:

Also, artists and the arts MORE THAN EVER need to be funded and expanded -- what the heck else are most of the lot of us doing whilst at home? Some folks really don't understand how important the arts are to humans.

Back on topic, a 762 in a VIP config sounds really fun actually; I mean, no need to fly antipodal flights but just enough lift for the entire band, dancers, equipment, producers, stage managers, equipment, et.al. In the long run, that sounds more economically efficient than to keep leasing lift from other companies. I get it.

It's on the Elan Express certificate and so would be operated by them. Accordingly, no way Cargojet pilots, under Cargojet's ops spec, are flying it. This is a marketing thing for CargoJet, because Drake is insanely-popular in Canada. They are doubtless paying a pretty penny for him to have this trophy with their name on it, and may directly or indirectly own the airframe. But my understanding is that they're not operating the jet. Wouldn't make sense.

Never even thought that would be possible or allowed! I thought that wings had to be 'bare metal' because of the air flow over the wings. slightly more paint on one side of the wing could have serious consequences for the air flow.

Not uncommon to see Boeings painted in "Boeing Grey" paint. Look at N2767 and you will that the wings are painted white which was a mistake made by the owners oversight manager, not the paint facility.

For one thing, this is likely a marketing scheme to a considerable extent. But for another, there's a reason entertainers like Drake use huge planes. It's not because it's a giant private jet just for them. It's because a major tour playing large arenas requires a large staff and a huge amount of equipment to put on the concert.
