Someone was asking about Qantas storage space at LAX..These photo were take about a weeks week ago. Qantas had 2 A380(one inside the hangar) and 3 B787. If you look at the satellite photo of the WAMA area of LAX and look at my photo, you can see where Qantas parked these aircraft. As for the two VA B777 on that satellite, those are pad 501 and 502, which is currently being used by Delta to park 6 aircraft. All the pad in from of Delta's hangar is also full. So there isn't much space left for Qantas if they decide to bring in more aircraft to park at LAX.

Qantas used to maintain there A380s at DXB. What caused them to move to AUH?

Etihad provided a better offer to QANTAS than EK did.

That someone was probably me. Huge thanks for posting the pics. Now I’ve got a much better understanding of the space they have to manage at LAX.

JQ32 said "Their poor management really is the reason for their current predicament. If they were well managed they would have cash reserves for times like this. Ansett Mrk 2 died due to 9/11, so why can't virgin die the same way it rose to this position. poor management and not planning for unforeseen circumstances. If they collapse, It will mean we have 1 profitable airline instead of two collapsing airlines and then when the market grows again a competitor will take VA's place just like VA did to Ansett."

Australian Government has sensibly rejected VA's initial request for assistance.

Virgin Australia abandons big Chinese flight school while associate faces jail

Virgin Australia and shadowy partner HNA Group have abandoned plans for their mega flight training school for Chinese pilots in Tamworth. In the latest bizarre twist in the saga, Anthony Klan reports a businessman working with the consortium faces up to 13 years’ jail over a string of serious criminal offences.

The federal government is in talks with both Qantas and Virgin about repatriation flights into remote areas where Australians are stranded.

The government is also in discussions with Qantas about keeping open trunk routes such as LAX, LHR and HKG operating

I was scratching my head just now watching a QR 77W cruise over the beach in Perth after seeing A380s every evening as well!

Oh so government support to Qantas to keep certain routes open? Insert outrage! What's given to Qantas should be made available to all. Etc etc ad nauseum.

Why are we even having flights schools for Chinese pilots, why cant they be opened for every one that wants to have a career in flying and not just the Chinese in Australia.
While VA is asking for a Government bail out, why isn't their HNA Group bailing them out. Some times I think China thinks they a law to them self's "we will do what we want but don't dare criticise us".

Because the Chinese domestic market has been growing so rapidly over the last few years and more. It’s also like asking why we allow Chinese students at Australian universities when they are full fee paying. There’s money to be made.

HNA are broke themselves, and it was last reported the Chinese Government are set to take them over to sell HNA's assets off (effectively Chinese Government enforced liquidation)

Although given it used a regular flight number maybe it was repatriation with pax staying on the same aircraft right through to where they were going given DXB is t allowing transit pax and EK aren’t operating any pax flights.

If you search KL827 on google as well, AMS-KUL-SYD shows up.

Virgin could be allowed to crash for new airline

The federal government is likely to facilitate the entry of a new carrier into the domestic market, rather than bail out Virgin Australia, should the struggling airline not survive the coronavirus crisis.

Ryanair. The 'bogans' will sure get a wake up call if they decide to set up down under to replace VA as the 2nd carrier.

The way this is all going, I doubt that any overseas airline is going to have international expansion plans for many years to come, they will be fully stretched just trying to survive on their home ground. I really think we could end up with a simplified Southwest-type airline which would be a bit like the old Virgin Blue. All B737s, no business class although some extra legroom economy seats or maybe a flexible 'European business class' approach, no lounges, maybe not even a frequent flyer scheme. Just focussing on getting people from A to B at best value fare.

As I had previously speculated in a earlier post QF have confirmed the B744’s haven’t been retired.

Qantas Parking Boeing 747s – No Retirement Yet

Rumors and speculation swirled over the weekend that Qantas was operating its last ever 747-400 flight. The speculation centered on QF28, a flight between Santiago and Sydney that landed on Sunday afternoon, Sydney time. Contrary to media reports, Qantas has since confirmed to Simple Flying that this was not the last 747-400 flight.

Well the 747s have to eventually be positioned out of SYD, so I guess that gives them at least 5 more flights. The longer this goes on, the less likely the 747s return as passenger flights.

Many people would rather have been there and seen the flight arrive and it not be the last flight, then dismiss it as just a rumour and it end up having been the last flight. IF anything, it was the last international QF arrival into SYD before the grounding, so it was still a special occasion.
