The Brooklands Museum announced at the end of August that ZA150, the VC-10 at Dunsfold, has been sold to GJD Services along with two simulators. GJD acquired the aircraft for Kepler Aerospace, based at Midland Texas. Kepler plan to use the VC-10 as a refueller for their satellite programme. If everything goes to plan, ZA150 will be ferried to St Athan to be prepared for Kepler.
Somewhere I read that two VC-10s at Bruntingthorpe may be or have been acquired by Kepler. The aircraft at Bruntingthorpe face an uncertain future because the airfield is less friendly to aeroplanes than it once was.

Will be a pity to lose another VC10, but at least it will fly again.

Hopefully it will still be at St Athan next time that I get down there.

Perhaps it will to to a good home when Kepler have finished with it, (Pima?).

The Bruntingthorpe VC10's will provide some useful spares.

Is someone really trying to get a VC10 back in the air? That's bonkers, but in the best way possible. I want to see it.

It appears BA 744 G-CIVW is making her final flight into Dunsfold.

There is already a ex BA 747 there which had been used as a film prop.

So far as I know, the Kemble aircraft will be scrapped (apart from G-CIVB, which is being preserved). Those at DGX will also be scrapped, (four BA B747 have already gone this year). The one at Dunsfold is for film work.

That leaves the two at NQY, which are likely to be broken up.

The ones at Cardiff and Spain, I am unsure about.

The two at NQY are well on the way to being broken up before Christmas.

Which frames will that be ? There are around 30 or so A320 family currently assembled at GLA over the last week or so. Mainly A319, but also A320 in CEO and NEO flavours.

At least 30 A320s arrived Palma last week, plus 34 A319/20/21 are at Glasgow. Also 25 or so at Gatwick, many ferried from Heathrow this week

Not unless the parking arrangements have changed since I visited for a look last week. She was on stand 34 at the West side of the international pier. That entire apron area is hosting the vast majority of the stored BA fleet, all of which are parked nose to tail and wing tip to wing tip, and more have arrived there since. There are some A319 right up at the blast fence which will not be retrieved without shifting several other aircraft first.

They’ll only be sitting there until April before the mass re-start begins.

Moving a few more planes will not take long.

It is not as if their undercarriage had been removed.

Yesterday (23NOV) G-BYGG positioned from CWL to St Athan. This followed an abortive attempt to make the short trip on 20NOV.
My guess is that the other 747s left at CWL will also be flown out to wherever they are to be broken up. If not, the very last BA 747 flight was YGG yesterday.

The entire A321 fleet (ceos, not neos) positioned to Madrid over the past week or so, most from GLA. BA Source has two of them making the trip for maintenance, the rest for storage.

They have to move every 15 days or so... only 3 or 4 foot, to rotate the wheel bearings IIRC.

A 744 is an expensive museum piece. A 744 stored outside is even more expensive.

Dunsfold for example is going to have 3 747s, if I'm not mistaken, with 2 as film sets. Is there that much demand for aircraft film sets? And what's the gimmick for the other frame? "Come see our 747...it's painted a little differently than the other one!"

Why did BA not use BOH for A319 / 320 storage like last time ? Would surely have been quicker and cheaper to ferry them to & fro back to their LHR base compared to PMI.

Depends how long they will be stored for.

BOH is colder and damper than PMI.

California is a lot further away.

Also IB or VY may have staff locally to keep an eye on things.

I think once things have died down the ones at St Athan and Kemble will be quietly scrapped. Same thing will probably happen to the two at Dunsfold once redevelopment starts. I can't see them both being kept in airworthy condition.

How does one go about acquiring parts from an aircraft that is being scrapped, without waiting/hoping they show up from a separate company like Aerotiques? My wife and I flew on CIVR on our honeymoon and I'm interested in getting something off of it once the scrapping process begins - would I have to contact the scrapping company directly? Does anyone have info on doing this?

It's unfortunate for you that CIVR is in Teruel making it harder to get a bit of her compared to one of the Kemble airframes. But yes, an initial contact with the scrapping company will be your first call and see what they can help with. Good luck !
