Abandoned A330 parked at TLV

Fri Apr 24, 2020 4:53 pm

On a recent trip to Israel I was driving past TLV and was quite surprised to see an A330 in Airbus house colors parked in a remote corner near IAA without engines. It obviously has been parked there for a while, I was wondering if anyone knew the story behind it

Not completely correct. It was built as a tanker for USAF when Airbus won the tanker competition, before Boeing objected and won the rematch.

I also recall seeing an abandoned B777-200 in Malaysia Airlines colors in TLV. Wonder if still there?

You mean the current 767 tanker? It should have been A330?

I'll wager the USAF would like to go back in time an revisit that decision. :checkmark:

Yes, originally it was supposed to be the MRTT, designated KC-45. However Boeing protested the award, and a rebid was announced - only then did we get the KC-46.
